LIncoln Late 1980s and Early 1990s

Today's pics mainly concentrate on the old engine shed, that is now the new Engine Shed. Also included are a couple of pics of other old railway buildings that used to occupy the site. The last photograph was taken with my back to the old Great Central warehouse. Not a sign of any of the Uni buildings now occupy the site.

The first photo is of what was the enginemens' accommodation block (built in 1954).

It would have replaced this place on Canwick Rd, lost when Pelham bridge was built (text from a 1919 directory). The old Great Central engine shed became the diesel depot in c1958 (between Rustons and GN Terrace). The shed site is at present the Stagecoach bus garage.

A few more of the Brayford area. If you walked down the alleyway shown in the middle of the first picture you came out on a scene like something out of a Dickens novel. I half expected to bump into Fagin, the Artful Dodger and Bill Sykes! I particularly like the mural in pictures 4 and 5, which was created by the Lincolnshire Youth Activity Trust for the Queens Golden Jubilee in 1977. Outdates Banksy by many years and far more colourful! Had to sneak in to an old warehouse due for demolition to get picture 6.

did that wall where the mural was become the retaining wall to a council car park? We used to park there back on the day I am sure it was still there then. years after it was painted.

Not sure. I will have a walk down that way next week to take a look.

its the panda I recognise. There is/was the main council offices one side of the road and on the other was a large period property behind that was a car park. If you were an employee they let you park on a saturday. I left Lincoln to go off in the big wide world in the year 2000 I think it would have mid to late 90s

I think the overriding impression for me is what a dump Lincoln was during that period. Nice to know my memory wasn't playing tricks on me...

its Industrial, our heritage and something to be proud of.

better then the mass of transient over priced catering outlets and vap shops which is what we have today
