When Ranieri took over at Leicester he first had a look round and saw what was working before changing things here and there. Contrast that with Pep who has come in, all football philosophy and revolutionary ideas for goalkeeping but it is he who is being the tinker man. Perhaps you can do that with players of the standard at Barca but you can't with our defence.
Not helped by VK4's continued injury woes and Stones inexperience the defence is a shambles. PG did strengthen the defence when he sent Mangala out on loan, he didn't play yesterday but I'd quite like to see the same happen to Otamendi. AKA Useless is no quality full back - he might make a very good marauding wing back but as a defender, no thanks.
Pep spent time identifying Hart as a weakness and then went out and strengthened the side with Sane, Moreno, Gundogan, Nolito, Gabriel Jesus and the Russian guy - lots of wide players, but only one defender in Stones. Perhaps PG overestimated the ease with which the defence would be able to adapt although most of them are old dogs and Pep is something of a new trick.
Just as a goalie and defence can give each other confidence so too presumably a defence gives the attack confidence to go and do it's job. At the moment its as though our defence is challenging the attack to score more than they concede, and the back 3/4/whatever appears to be winning.
Still, down at Vicarage Road they are probably licking their lips and saying to themselves; City, YOU are next...
But well done Leicester, only a dozen passes all game but you still managed to score four goals.
