We'll take it. A tricky run of away games for Manuel Pellegrini and his Manchester City squad has begun with a much more robust and focused away performance at the home of the Premier League's fellow top scorers, Claudio Ranieri's well drilled Leicester. What The Foxes do might not be pretty, but it is certainly effective and for City to nullify and control their attacking threat for the majority of this entertaining stalemate, the Blues engine room had to work intensively. For me, that's where this hard fought point was earned, although quite frankly City's profligacy off the back of a score of chances suggested that the Engineer's men should have departed with the spoils...That said, with the Everton Trilogy upon us inside a matter of weeks during what will be a decisive domestic January before we head for Kiev, this clean sheet is extremely well timed and should install some belief into a work in progress City defence who are still prone to some rash individual judgement. Still, you have to start somewhere and why not at the much feted surprise team of the season?...My Man of The Match is Fernandinho. His tireless work would have registered a match winning performance against lesser sides...So, an unpredictable season reaches the halfway point and City, having maintained a dalliance with falling away from the title chase have grafted their way back into contention. Spare a thought for the entitled Tarquins of Arsenal tonight. City are breathing down their necks again and this squad knows precisely how to hunt league leaders down...To you and yours, a Happy New Year Planet Blue from all at VMC and the Vital Football Network.

Typical that the league's top scorers would play out a goalless draw but I'll take it.

Is that our first clean sheet without Kompany this season?
 
I think so. Tosser Mills kept going on about it and all the rest of it. Leicester costing 12 pence, City 500 billion etc...Yawn..
 
An open letter to Danny Mills:

I know, you know, we know and God knows that you are embittered **** but you need to take your hand off it every now and again or it will fall off completely. You forgot to mention that LCFC played their 22nd match tonight . We did that on December 1 and have played 28 games. Without our captain and major goal scorer for at least 12 of those 28. Were you having a pie and chips when the Otter nearly scored from a header in the 2nd half bringing a very good save from Kasper coz you went dead quiet. You must have nearly choked.
 
Had the volume down really low so I couldn't make out what he was saying but still enough to hear atmosphere if you know what I mean. p***ks like Mills ruin the enjoyment of watching a game, it's not right that we should have to suffer it.
 
The City performance was a great improvement, the back four played really well with the odd blooper but thankfully it didn't cost us.

Leicester defended almost with a flat back 8 and when we did penetrate that Schmeichel junior saved them on several occasions.

Our passing could be improved but we dealt with LC 's strike force but I cannot honestly say that Leicester impressed me and City's defence is supposed to be fragile at best, but you keep criticising long enough they will do t it right, tonight they got it right.

It is a worry not scoring goals away from home, but we have to remember that we have not had Aguero available and he is currently trying to get back to match fitness. Pellers much an advocate of 4-4-2 won't chance playing that formation until we have a midfield general of quality

:110: with all the above. Danny Mills is one of a long list of ex-City non-greats who seem to have a chip on their shoulder and now have been given the oxygen of to/radio air time as 'pundits' or summarisers to vent their spleen and unfathomable dislike.

I will add to this Pantheon of mediocrity Steve 'McPointalot' McMananaananaman and ex-rag Owen Hargreaves both of whom drove me up the wall with their summarising for BT Sport last evening. Good job I was watching the game on catch up so I could fast forward through some of the less than balanced comments otherwise I may have chewed my own arm off. Example - Albrichton delivered an excellent cross only tot see a team mate put the ball wide and gets lauded, De Bruyne delivered an excellent cross through a crowded penalty area which Aguero touches over and it barely merited a mention. Overall once again the BT Sport commentator's volume control only seems to work when Leicester made a chance - he was very keen for them to score and he dropped into the same mantra about clean sheets a Kompany and away goals :blah!:

As for the game - great write up JB :yup: Fair and balanced - that is all I ask of anyone. Leicester worked hard and put their bodies on the line but they clearly have a simple game plan - kick the ball forward as soon as possible to the really fast bloke. No problem with that and we did really well to cope but don't treat them as the next Barcelona. City showed a resilience and determination that has been absent and we can only hope that Otamendi and Mangala are finally getting their act together - they will need to show that in the weeks to come. Thought they contained the most prolific strike force in the league very well (but failed to get any credit from the commentary I was enduring).
 
I blocked the Grauniad newspaper (and Grauniad Sports) on Twitter last night for branding this game as "Ewoks vs The Death Star"

Utterly bent reporting. I know leicester have become this year's "Fairy Tale", but the way everyone from pundits to journos was willing us to lose was nauseating.

Leicester really don't look anything special, unless you're an admirer of parked buses, so I expect their slide down the table to gather pace from here on in.
 
I'm struggling to understand why Danny Mills in particular is so bitter about us.
I can't remember any particular controversy regarding his departure from the club.
Does anyone know?

 
Because in the end we hated the guy, we were paying him mega bucks and did not want to play him, we loaned him, found clubs to buy him but he stayed until his contract ran out. He made 51 appearances in 5 years with us, loans to Hull, Charlton, and Derby, but we were stuck with him and he knew we did not want him. So he sticks the knife in every chance he gets, but in the end it is us that gets to laugh. :ha-ha:
 
Hey JB I couldn't agree more. Mills was f'ín me off and whoever the other pillock was. The bias in the commentary was so one eyed it was deplorable. I was so close to watching the game without commentary.

How does an average footballer get on TV to commentate when they were nothing short of useless in their chosen profession.

We were still a side then that took players that were looking for their last big pay day, the only good thing I can say about him was that he scored a spectacular goal against Everton(it was a lucky hit and hope shot), but he was way past his best and by looking at his career he never played a full season of games for anyone. of the 50 odd games he played for us in those 5 years they were all in the first two seasons.

I can understand why he might bear a grudge but one would hope that he could get over it and try and do a more professional job.

He is not unique, there are other players at other clubs who presumably had similar situations but he is not a victim. He was not an indentured slave, he was paid a substantial sum of money for effectively doing **ck all and HE was prepared to take that money, bring it home to support his family and justify that in his own mind, to his friends, partner and family. He had choices but opted to remain at the club so I really don't see why he should have such a chip on his shoulder and choose to vent his bile and frustration every time he summarises on a City game.

FFS get over it Danny.

I would complain to the broadcasters citing examples but I am not sure if I can be asked to waste any time bothering.
 
We may hate have disliked Gary Neville, but at least he tried to be unbiased as possible, but Danny Mills will never move on with that attitude, similarly Humphreys from BT sport, seems to have a bee in his bonnet about us.

I love the way that both Mcpointalotmanmanmanmanaman and Savage both disagreed with rag loving Webb over the penalty shout against Aguero. Quoting his outstretched hands when he fell over. I say this to Howard try fall over face first and tell me where your hands are when doing it.
