League One & League Two Play-Offs Thread

It is, but the powers that be are terrified of the consequences of it's reintroduction. It was abolished when Chelsea lost to Middlesbrough, thereby being relegated, and their so called fans rioted and dismantled much of Middlesbrough.
I presumed it was scrapped as you can't really have a 'wembley final' for a relegation contender.. (dont think the finals were at wembley until they scrapped it).

The first two seasons of play-offs - 1986/87 and 1987/88 included a team from the division above. The final was over two legs.

From 1988/89 the present format began and was still over two legs.

1989/90 was the first Wembley final.

The National League system seems a bit better - with one-leg semi-finals in which the higher placed team has home advantage.

I too like the National play off system as it favours the club finishing higher up the league. However, for example if it was adopted by the EFL, 9th place in League 2 would be a PO place. Is a club finishing just above half way in the league worthy of a shot at promotion?

What anyone thinks of the POs, its not a genie that is getting back in it's bottle.

Boston finished 6th in NLN 13 points behind second place Scunthorpe then had to play and win a quarter final away, a semi final away and then a final away to get promoted to the NL.

The system is loaded, and rightly so, to those who finish higher but everyone knows the score before the season starts and I don't think that there would be a club who would want the system of the playoffs changed in that league as it keeps the season open to a lot of teams right up to the final closing weeks of the season thus maintaining crowds and interest.
