League 1 August Summary Away Attendances

As last season, an update will follow the month end.

As many have commented, difference between L1 and L2 size of clubs is clear for everyone to see and this is reflected in the away attendances.

A total of 63,188 fans followed their club during August (with 4 games currently unaccounted for). This compares 26,695 last season during August in L2.

Sunderland are the club most likely to have the largest followers (if, for no other reason, than they have the highest home gate by a significant margin) but Imps have done well in the first month with some local(ish) derbies alongside Ipswich.

Probably the biggest difference to last season- during August 2018/19 there were 6 occasions more than 1,000 fans travelled.
This season, on 22 occasions, over 1,000 have followed their club.

22 games during August when teams took over 1,000 away fans, only 6 in the same month last year. Huge difference between League 1 and League 2.

Thanks for the stats SB.

Once we are past August, the monthly summary will include a running average alongside actual total numbers.

So far we’ve only played teams at home with modest away support, which has limited our home League gates. Some much bigger home League attendances likely over the rest of the season.

Certainly the 4 or 5 clubs who will likely sell out the away end (Sunderland, Ipswich, Coventry, Peterborough and now likely Bolton) should all be home sell-outs and a full-up sign at the door.
