Law of attraction

Anyone believe in this? I've recently been reading up on it and it sound very interesting.

Yes I do in many different ways, believe in many different ways. The old saying ''birds of a feather flock together'' is just another way of saying it for example.

I met the ex, in 1985 we were both dysfunctional (though didn't know it) bought had difficult childhoods that looked good on the surface. With the ex it was his Mom who the major problem, with me it was my Dad.

I have been in recovery/therapy for 14 years plus ongoing and/or at some stage. I wouldn't look twice at the ex now.

The young gal who met him isn't who I have become.

I think there is many other ways to look at the law of attraction. We attract our kind I think in whatever walk of life that is. You attract into your life whatever you focus on I think. That just a couple of my thoughts

Your views Sas?

I do believe it kefkat. My only issue is negative thinking becomes a habit over time. It's hard to change and i worry bad things will happen with my negative mind set and lack of confidence in some areas. Most people who are positive do it without thinking get positive results. It's already ingrained in our subconscious because of years of thinking
I find it difficult to understand properly so I've simplified it to just having faith instead of fear. If I'm scared of change I try and get excited about it. Again trying to break the habit.

Some incorrect science that LOA is based on.

a) Electrons have positive charges.
b) In physics “Like always attracts like.” [magnets?]
c) Thinking burns up brain matter.
d) Only ether (not air) conducts light and thought.
e) Ether connects all minds together. When 2 or more minds come close together, “mind stuff” mixes, and creates a third, “master mind.”
f) Higher altitudes have more oxygen, better air for breathing.
g) Vibrating sound more quickly turns it into heat, then light, than thought.
h) Thought energy is 40,000 Hz to 4 X 1014 Hz or above 7 x 1014 Hz. In reality brain waves are slow 1 – 100 Hz.

All of these are quoted as proof that LOA works, yet all are false.

I'll start by quoting what I said on the subject on the other thread.

Answer me this. If two people want the same thing, say a promotion at work, and both believe in LOA and use positive thoughts in the same way, who gets the job?

I don't think it works that way Heathfield. If one didn't get the job but had faith that another opportunity will soon arise it probably will. If you start crying and blame everyone etc you probably won't get the better job or less likely.
It's like the saying "if you think you can your probably right, if you think you can't your probably right as well".

Without meaning to be too rude, that's absolute rubbish. Positive thinking probably will help you through your life, but it will not give you everything you want, as is claimed.

The whole basis of LOA is bogus, and funnily enough, some are making huge sums of money selling it to gullible people. Trying to justify it with Science is just the final nail in the coffin.

Many of the words most sussesfull people believe in the law of attraction like Oprah and Connor McGregor etc.

The two most important words you will ever learn are "I am". It's up to you if you want to put a negative or positive after it. You become what you think.

Oprah can't possibly be following it to the letter. She's just not selfish enough. A cornerstone of teh system is that no negative thoughts are allowed. Indeed, Wallace Wattles, a LOA founder wrote, “Do not talk about poverty; do not investigate it, or concern yourself with it. Do not spend your time in charitable work, or charity movements, all charity only tends to perpetuate the wretchedness it aims to eradicate.”

What a wonderful belief system.

I don't know this Wallace bloke and I agree his version of it is nonesence if that's what he thinks.
I don't think anyone can follow it to the letter. Everyone has there own interpretation of it.
imo love and faith are the key ingredients to a better life. Fear is the opposite and will prevent you from fulfilling your dreams.

It's the very basis of LOA. You have to be selfish. I would suggest you aren't a follower of this particular structure, but merely living your own version of it.

Rhonda Byrne in her book The Secret says this, “If you see people who are overweight, do not observe them…If you think or talk about diseases, you will become sick. What you think or surround yourself with – good or bad, is what you will bring upon yourself.”

If you believe in a LOA then you need to avoid any of the “helping or health” professions such as doctor, nurse, hospital worker, clergy, psychologist, police officer, paramedic, etc. Avoid professions in which you deal with poor people such as accountant, mortgage broker, banker, lawyer, etc.

While research shows that charitable work, empathy and volunteering is beneficial to both the giver and receiver, avoid these things if you truly believe in a LOA.

Becoming a positive rather than negative person takes time Sas.

It has to be about a new way of living and it doesn't happen overnight.

I don't think anyone can be completely positive even with years of self training.

I believe you can become detached in a healthy way to look at the whole situation and take learnings from it.

I personally think positive and negative words are putting too much pressure on ones self and its the thinking that needs to be changed.

For example: what is good and what is bad. A situation that may seem good can turn out to be bad. Ie: a lottery win = good however if the person can't deal with it and squanders it, it could turn out to be bad.

Bad maybe a person loses there job however it helps them reevaluate there life and go in a different direction can turn out to be good.

Usually that process is best done in some sort of group or 1-1 impute depending on the person and there story.

However I think it's the way you look at it and it takes time to do either within a group or self improvement

My take is that the Law of Attraction is bullshit but their believe in it feeds their own internal drive for success, so you know maybe when you look at it that way you could argue it does.

I think the key is that they actually went and followed their dreams and tried to make it happen and stayed positive during set backs.

Some would say luck as well but I sort feel both are just things people use as an excuse for their own circumstances.

I moved to NYC with no job and managed to land probably the best I could hope for and something which has given me massive opportunities. Some have said to me I am lucky and in some ways I think it sometimes but in the end I searched high and low for 6 weeks and money was running out. I didnt give up and kept trying and then I sought a different avenue and it worked out from there. My continued success is due to a belief in something its my own internal drive to do well.

So with that I'd say its more a catalyst for someone to take their finger out and get shit done. If somebody finding inspiration etc. from something then its hard to knock it.

I am naturally positive but I am super skeptical of things so I don't know if it would work for me. I am debating getting it for my brother because he is so negative about things but positive about others, like me tho he is super skeptical I dont know if open his mind to it. I have been trying to figure out how to make him more positive it actually worries my parents.
