I know there's been loads posted about tonight's game in the cup draw thread but it's mainly about the contentious stand allocation so thot I'd start a matchday thread.
As the title suggests young uns v old has beens with the hope of yet another giant killing on the horizon. Not sure on this weeks lottery numbers so obviously similar thots on SM's team selection & set up. Similarly not sure on the score...possibly a sneaky win for us or the complete opposite....man I'm doing a great impression of our resident fence sitter ( u know who you are 😏).
Hopefully it's a good night, atmosphere bouncing whilst keeping the cockney reds very quiet.
Coming off that fence to predict a 2 nil win to us & a decent 4th round draw 🤔🤔
 
I'm with you, Jock, in hoping for a fantastic atmosphere and great evening for the tics. It's a rather peculiar match in terms of what makes a great night though. I think we have to respect them but also not stifle our young talent from showing their best attributes (which certainly isn't absorbing 90 minutes of pressure). We don't have the wise old fearless types of previous giant killings, like Perkins or Gary Roberts, so I reckon the message will be to trust in the things you do well and take whatever opportunity comes. Obviously would love a win, but a decent showing that we can all be proud of will also do for me. I'd go home happy with an impressive Hughes display, Tickle bailing us out with some wonder saves, some Godo magic and a Thelo stunner to steal it 😉
 
I'd be happy with us either make a good showing of ourselves (whatever the result), OR get stuffed, but sneak a scrawpy win.
 
Not feeling massively positive about the possiblility of a result from it, united have been terrible recently and will want to use this as a springboard by giving us a pasting.

Hoping that they don't really turn up and that the murmers that ten hag is on borrowed time and has lost the players are true.

Like Moonay said, I'd be happy whatever the result as long as we put a good show on and don't capitulate if we go a couple goals down. Hopefully a good performance will win over some of the many fans that will be there that don't attend regularly.
 
I hope we can keep it tight and nick a 1-0 win. The worst thing that can happen is that we go behind early in the game.

I’d love us to cause an upset but it feel they’ll have too much attacking quality and will go away with a comfortable 3-0 win.
 
The usual four nil loss. I was quietly confident when the draw was made, but that evaporated when the club sacrificed home advantage a few extra quid. They'll score early and add a few more later on when we run out of puff. The most important thing from our perspective is that the likes of Tickle, Hughes, Adeeko and Thelo all have good games. These are the occasions where the value of a player can increase by multi-millions.

Hopefully Garnacho plays for them, that kid is going to be a worldwide superstar.

As I said to St C on another thread...we need as much & as many advantages as possible against these men & gifting Utd the East stand imo was an a slight advantage lost for a few £££.
Hopefully the North stand is raucous n that in turn wakes up the West stand taking us to a berth in the next round 😏🤔🤣
 
Yes I've got to agree...before giving the East stand away we would have won 6-0.....now obviously its a 6-0 defeat.

What a load of deluded bollocks eh ?

Anyway hopefully we give a good account of ourselves and playing against United should be all the motivation any player needs.

Good picture on the United home page. That will be what the players will be walking out to later, only it won't be filled with home fans. A must-needed boost for a vulnerable opponent. We'll deserve the derision we get.

I'm sure the likes of Hindley and Moonay will be at the East turnstiles to wipe their feet and give them a clap as well.
 
Scandalous decision to give them our biggest and most vocal stand and won’t play well on tv, particularly with Mancs also infesting the other stands.

For the first time in our history against them I’m reasonably confident we can get a positive result instead of the usual 4-0 defeat. They are absolutely shite at present, some of their players are an utter disgrace. Honestly I wouldn’t swap some of our players for theirs. Tickle over Onana for example, Hughes at centre half and Godo instead of that Antony. I wouldn’t swap Maloney for Ten Bob either given the bullshit he comes out with, the constant excuses and the dire football he serves up.

Notwithstanding the occasional decent post, sometimes, you can be a right arse ... for clarity, that's one step beyond dickhead.

I think it's a military thing. I had a friend, unfortunately passed away now, that was time served in the forces. The vast majority of the time he was sound, but had that side to him that thrived/looked for conflict and he seemed to need an enemy to rail against, whether actual or perceived. Mutty/Pie Eater is the same. Ex military background but obsesses about perceived wrongs. Insecurity masking itself as aggression and arrogance.

I don’t mind us trying to pass the ball around but as soon as it becomes clear it isn’t working (like against Derby) then we need to go more direct. Each game is different, we played some really good football against Carlisle in the first half but they didn’t press us like Derby did.

I expect United will try to press us high so we’ll have to mix it up more. They might start to drop off a bit at times which is when we should try to play out from the back.

Hopefully we can get a few goalscoring opportunities, some of their first choice defenders are out injured. I think down their left may be the weakness, Wan Bissaka at right back for them is very good 1v1 so I’d expect more of our attacks to come down our right hand side tonight.

We had beaten Manchester City in the previous round and were full of confidence against a Southampton team who were struggling for form and battling relegation, especially as we had seen off Premier league Bournemouth and West Ham in earlier rounds, we as fans fancied it, in the end it turned out a comfortable win for Southampton.

I am comparing that to the feeling now, United stink at the moment, up and down performances and players I would not wish for in our side, no fight or passion springs to mind, so why should we not be confident of an upset.

I hope that attitude isn't in the team and management and also I hope we give them a rough and tumble game that they don't relish, I hope more than anything we can get a result, or at the very least a decent performance to give us ongoing confidence, that is as much as we can dare for. However my head tells me a 0-2 or 0-3 scoreline.

I pray to god everyone is back on later giving me stick about my thoughts and prediction.

It's the same old little Wigan tale...either sugar or shite. We face a team low on confidence, their manager starring into the abyss, shit defending n not much better in attack....it'll either be, 'welcome to the DW where we'll allow you to regain your confidence, regain defensive confidence, give your striker a much needed lift whilst giving your manager a stay of execution'.....or we could just encapsulate the away form we played against Bolton, Derby & Carlisle to send the cockney Mancs back up the East Lancs Rd with a stinging defeat.....
