Lampard appointed

Like Dougie Freedman did before him, Frank Lampard will have to face the first wave of financial constraints. Does he know many lower league players he can get on the cheap. Perhaps his best bet is the loan market for a few seasons if he lasts that long. As regards comparability, Lampard does sound like Stuart Pearce. I can't tell their accents apart.

In which case it may well be advisable for you to get your hearing checked....... ;)

I welcome this on the basis that conventional wisdom is against it. Its a gamble, but we haven't exactly succeeded with other "non gambles" , so why not? Now we have an online casino as shirt sponsor, and a rookie manager, maybe we will gamble more and return to those 5-4 wins not 0-0 boredom.

On the subject of another gambling sponsor, what is it about football shirt sponsors that attract the grubby end of business? Gambling, obesity and junk food, I'm sure some alcohol and if it wasn't for it being illegal, tobacco industry involvement too. Next it will be your local drug dealers.

Where's all the nice cutesie sponsors gone: Mothercare, Dorothy Perkins, Bondara etc. Forest could even get sponsored by Poundland.
To be honest how many people are swayed by what is on the front of a football shirt. Ok, the Forest guys have had their bit of fun with the 32Red logo but how many seriously think to themselves "I must take a look at the gambling website"? Most people who like a bet go to the established high street names, Ladbrokes, William Hill etc and no amount of advertising on the front of the shirt will make them change, their established online or local betting shops.......

Looking at the positives, at least the sponsor's name is in black this time rather than red, it ruined the Just Eat shirt and again it didn't make me go to the website...... or eat more :geek:

At least players should be concerned with what is shown on their shirts. There is no way I would want to be associated with any of the products being displayed. Formula 1 drivers with multi sponsorships and Tour de France cyclists displaying sponsors on their bums are even worse.

Up to a point Basie, especially where extremes are concerned, like Newcastle and that immoral loan company. I doubt though, watching the Test match at the moment, that either set of players could care less about either Pepsi or NatWest.
With you on ‘areas’ of advertising though...all kit looks better advert free imo, but the advertising on rugby players’ back sides is horrible as are the on pitch adverts which sees players with blue, purple and red smears all over them. Ridiculous!

Can see your point with many footballers getting into gambling debt etc. Doesn't give a good impression of the person or the club but money or sponsorship does pay a lot of the wages in todays game.

If advertising did not work, then there must be a lot of businesses Pi**ing money away! There is a huge amount of online gambling these days, betting shops are old hat, hence why they installed all the slot machines, which the government has said it will reduce the stakes on - online is accessible and easy for people to become addicted.

Of Derby shirt sponsors over the past seasons I can honestly say that I have not bought anything from any of them that I wasn't already buying beforehand. That includes the shirt suppliers as well.

The ones I have bought from?

Adidas - been wearing Adidas since the early 70s

Puma - See Adidas above

Umbro - See Puma above

Marston's Pedigree - been on that since I was 13

Bass - See Marston's Pedigree above and the age changes to 12.....

Of the others? I have never bought....

Bukta, buymobiles.net, Just eat, Bombardier, Derbyshire Building Society, Errea (other than a DCFC shirt and Errea wasn't the reason it was bought), EDS, Auto Windscreens, Kappa (See Errea explanation), Joma (See Kappa).

None of the DCFC sponsors have persuaded me to buy their goods. I may be one of the few but their advertising doesn't seem to work on me.

Nor me, the only one I would have bought (Marstons) isn't sold in Surrey and in any event is a long time favourite from university days.

Just Eat advertising had a negative impact in that would never have bought a replica shirt bearing their logo. I know many Nu'cassel fans who said the same about Wonga

Does anyone know how the season ticket sales have gone, since his appointment?
Thre was already 18,000+ sold before he was announced. They, of course, are the die-hard supporters who would have renewed come what may.

Like you, it would be interesting to know just how many we have sold since Lampard's appointment. If the reaction of many of the ladies I have spoken to recently then they will be on the rise :love::love::love:
