Vital Champions League
I had a look at the transfer activity for everyone in L1, according to Transfermrkt.com - out of the 24 teams in the division just 4 of them have spent any money on transfer fees. Portsmouth, Charlton spent about 200k NET each, then Hull and Peterborough spent under 2m each but that was funded by players sales that were higher than that amount. The total spend of the whole division was about 4m.

Only 8 clubs out of the 24 recieved any transfer fees, with the whole league selling a total of about 20m with us accounting for about half of that with our fire sale, and former Wigan players toney going for 5m and Leo Lopes going abroad for 1.8m (hope we had a sell on!) and then Dickie went to QPR from Oxford for over 2m. So out of the few teams who did make a profit only us, Peterborough, Hull and Oxford made anything significant on player sales.

So only 2 clubs had a positive Net spend, 6 made a profit in players sales and the vast majority of the league is restricted to bringing in loans and frees. 2 thirds of the division weren't able to raise funds by selling anyone with the overwhelming majority of departures being free transfers after contracts expire. Most teams Gross spend and Gross sales is simultaniously zero.

This isn't even just now due to covid, i looked at the spending in this league the last couple of times we were in it and it wasn't much different except the fact we had money back then. It just goes to show how little money there is in this leauge. With such a tiny amount of tv revenue at this level that fails to cover any teams wage bill and no crowd revenue it's hard to see how the league can function. If we get bought by anyone and they have funds to just cover loses for 2 years we'll probably be the richest club in the division!
