Kyle Walker: Falling out with Poch?

What do you all make of this. If he goes, I believe it is because his value in pounds out weighs his value to the club on the pitch. Trippier has been chosen several times in his place and has performed well.

This article makes it sound like there is a problem with his fitness and that he and Poch have had a falling out. How could Walker's fitness be an issue? I thought the guy was the fittest player at the club!

Kyle Walker, left on the bench again yesterday, has decided that his future
lies away from Tottenham Hotspur.
Barcelona have joined Manchester City and Manchester United in pursuit of the right-back and Walker, having fallen out with Mauricio Pochettino once again over fitness and selection, wants to leave.

Pochettino and Daniel Levy are in no rush to sell any of their players but if any of the Spurs first team are to be sold this summer then Walker is the likeliest. He would cost at the very least £35million, if not closer to £50m, money to invest back into the team and to ensure Spurs do not need to sell their crown jewels Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Danny Rose.

The issue between Walker and Pochettino is long-running and boils down to Pochettino’s doubts about Walker’s fitness and his performances in training. He thinks that Walker struggles to play two big games in a week, a view that Walker seriously disputes. Walker did not play any of Spurs’ three Champions League away games, including the crucial 2-1 defeat at Monaco last November which knocked Spurs out of the competition.

Walker and Kieran Trippier had been alternating at right-back in April but the crunch came nine days ago at Wembley. Pochettino picked Trippier over Walker for the FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea, a decision that surprised Walker. He knew that he would be playing against Crystal Palace on Wednesday night but given the choice he would rather have played at Wembley.

On Sunday for the north London derby against ars*nal, Trippier started and Walker stayed on the bench. It was the first time Walker has been on the bench for a league game against ars*nal under Pochettino.

These events have indicated to Walker that his time is up at Spurs and he should look for his next club. But there is also the matter of money. Tottenham’s rigid wage structure means that the contract Walker signed at the start of the season is for just under £70,000 per week. Walker is very conscious of the fact that he could earn twice as much money elsewhere, especially at City or United. There is no way that Spurs’ incremental wage increases could compete.

Walker has another four seasons left on his contract after this one so he will not be cheap. But as an England international of peak age with seven seasons of consistent Premier League experience he is a very attractive prospect to Manchester City and Manchester United. City are desperate for new quick full-backs as well as English players and are thought to be the favourites.

Walker has not handed in a transfer request at Spurs yet but he is attracted by the possibility of a big move and frustrated by recent events. When Pochettino was asked last Tuesday about the summer, he admitted some players would be sold, but only if he chose they could go, as might well be the case with Walker this summer.

“The players that we want to keep, we will keep,” Pochettino said. “Because [Daniel Levy] said to me ‘we don’t need money’. If we sell some players it is because we want to sell some players. For our fans, it is so clear that all the decisions we take are for the reason to try to improve the team, try to be more competitive next season.”
 
If there has been a falling out it will be over Walker having his head turned. My guess is Walker was distracted by rumours and his agent so Poch dropped him for the FA Cup. Walker was upset and spoke to Poch, convincing him he was ok to play. Poch started him against Palace and you could see Walker was trying too hard and he has his poorest game of the season. Poch then makes the right call and drops him for the NLD.

Walker will want more money and his agent is notorious for kicking up a stink in the press. I don't think there will be a personal falling out between Walker and Poch, but I think both will be frustrated with how everything is going down. If Walker isn't given improved terms, he will go, albeit very reluctantly. I sincerely think Walker wants to stay but he obviously thinks that at this point in his career he needs to make more money.

Is there any verification of this statement? Specifically, "we don't need the money"?
 
50M for Walker? If some team is dumb enough to pay that let them.

It's obvious something has happened, Walker is supposed to be our best RWB and he has been dropped for arguably our 2 biggest games of the season.

He is gone.

Zaha will come in and play RAM and add the pace, Trippier can then be more of a RB which will suit his game better.

KWP will then be promoted if ready. If not we will sign another up and coming RWB.
 
Oh Kyle, please get some proper advice and get your head down. You are the person I would most advise against causing any trouble about a move from Spurs.

Points I would raise with him

1) Spurs are currently in the position where he can be replaced quite easily
2) Spurs are in the position to ruin his career - 4yrs on his contract, don't need the money and he can spend 12mths on the bench and he would still have 3yrs left and nothing to show for it
3) He has come on a bomb from 2yrs ago. He is real quality
4) He has absolutely zero self control. He doesn't have the brains to realise when things are not going right, how to change them and how to settle himself down
5) He relies on the players around him. He switches off so much and the Kyle Walker of 2yrs ago was quite a liability

So he gets his big move for £50m. He gets his £120-140,000 per week. He ends up with John Stones as the centre half inside him. John Stones is trying his best to assert himself to cover his own back. At City or whoever and as a £50m player he would be expected to not rely on others to sort his head, concentration or positioning out. Imagine how they would treat him after a month of brain farts.

Kyle, just knuckle down. Asert your authority on your position. Thank your lucky stars for Spurs and the way we play and get yourself a nice little pay rise in line with your team mates.

Otherwise, I won't be losing much sleep and tbh I would use him to try and get a top player in exchange. Rashford & Shaw from Man Utd seems a nice exchange
 
Can't believe we have our best team for decades and fans want first team regulars to leave. Walker has been fantastic this season and owned that right hand side. Fair play to Trippier for getting his head down as well. If we are going to push on from where we are then we need 2 players for each position and RB is one of the few positions that we have that. It would be totally stupid to sell either of them.
 
Walker has the odd moment but to write him off in this manner is laughable really. I'd sooner see him stay but if he chooses to go then so be it.

We've often said that we lacked pace in out attack and IMO, as per many others, yes, Walker has pace but offers little or nothing as end product and is often chasing back because he lost the ball. Furthermore, Poch has tried his luck with Sissoko, N'Jie and N'Koudou to add pace and rumours were rife that we looked at Zaha in January. The Scenario Real Deal refers to has merit imo. Walkers demeanour hints at a departure too. We just have to find someone else who can do the Halloween video's!

Keeping Walker is a must for me. Even for $50m I'd say no, in the knowledge that it would all be spent securing the club's future deadwood. Besides I find it unlikely that he's sold in the summer. It's been a long season and Trippier is in better form, why not rotate?

Am I mad when I say I prefer Trippier? What's Walker got on Trippier? Pace and that's about it. Walker might edge defending but only by a fag paper. When it comes to the other end Tripps pisses all over him. Passing, crossing, assists, and brains.

Still don't get it. Walker is part of the best defence in the league, not Trippier. Walker will be even more important as we move to the bigger Wembley pitch. Walker and Roses' recovery rate and ability to get up and down the pitch will be invaluable especially defensively. I can also see the logic in bringing in more pace further up the pitch in Zaha but that is mutually exclusive to what we do with the full-backs. I doubt Zaha will ever get to play as a "winger" in a Poch system but will be used in the channels like we see with Eriksen and Son.

For me, our biggest gap in the team (not squad) is a right sided, ball playing centre half for our 3-4-3 system. If we had someone on the outside of Toby doing what Jan does on the left then we'd improve again. Nothing against Dier, but Jan can spring attacks from nowhere and carry the ball up the field. Opposition teams don't plan for that and when games get tight it is Jan that becomes our secret weapon. Imagine having someone on the other side with the same ability. I really hope we are getting involved with the Mateo Musacchio deal this summer as he would massively improve our first team and squad.

Our defence is down to the way we play, the way our attacking players press relentlessly, how we are setup, our positional and tactical awareness, fitness etc etc.

With all due respect to Walker, the 2 most important defensive players are Toby and Verts, in that order. Anytime one of them did not play our results went to shit. They hold the back line and cover for Walker (amongst others).

When Walker does not play our defensive record does not drop. We win and score just as much.

I prefer Trippier, said it at the beginning of the season and will say it again now.

Selling Yedlin seems like a mistake, the kid made a huge leap this season.
 
Muttley, In an ideal world, I'd want to retain ALL our existing players as they have ALL been part of the transformation we are witnessing under Poch. There is mentality and sentimentality. I don't expect Poch not to continue to fine tune this team and get more out of the existing squad. There are players that can hit a ceiling with their development or there are those out there that Poch thinks he can find a higher ceiling for. Continuous improvement and all that, imo, requires 'smaller' adjustments to the personnel. I don't doubt Walker is much improved since Poch arrived, but I can't see another level in him. The team has been raising the bar year after year, so it's how we reach the next level.

The point about being part of the meanest defence.... on paper yes, just as Jannsen is part of a team that may finish 2nd in PL. I read an article recently that the reason for ours being the best defence is not just because of the 4 at the back, it's also who's between the sticks and who in midfield is protecting them and how we press up field to reduce the burden on our defence. As Poch says time after time, it's a team effort.
 
Critical - agree, we absolutely defend as a team. Just saying that Walker is getting no credit for the amount of times we've been caught up field and it's his ability to get goal side that has quashed the attack. Same with Rose. With Wanyama tucking in that is how Poch has set us up defensively. Clyne was doing exactly the same for Liverpool last night and got his man to slow down and check because of his pace several times. Trippier is no slouch either but doesn't have Walker's express pace.

I also think that it is Walker's decision making that is wrong with his crossing, not his actual ability to cross the ball. He overplays it at the wrong time. Trippier is the other way. He crosses at first opportunity and that can just as easily go into the crowd like it did against ars*nal at the weekend or put in a pearler. I prefer Trippier's approach but also get the risk of getting caught up field when the cross turns over possession.

Let's hope we can keep both and keep seeing them both improve.
 
How can we talk of losing Walker (fitness issue I just cant believe is true) as he bombs up and down all match. His issue, as i see it, is not crossing first time and turning back, and I believe this has been coached out of him, because poch does not just want crosses high into the box, and wants walker to turn in side and feed Ericksen who whips it in at a different angle, ...he is an asset ......yet we have shitsokko, and i seem to be the only one on here who shouts from the rafters that he should be gone......Walker offers a 100 times what that French waster does....
 
Muttley, if it were up to me, I'd keep ALL our players and work on their weaknesses. Very unfair by many, including me, to single out Walker, but the vibes out there are not good and this discussion brings to the fore the points about Walker that have surfaced many a times during the match posts. Poch seems very meticulous and demanding sort of a guy and I am sure he'd have analysed every player with his microscope. Let's hope the TEAM moves forward without any major re-shuffle. The pacy wingers working in channels will definitely add to our armoury. Shame that at a time when we are supposed to be rejoicing a triumph over our neighbours and fighting for the title, we concern ourselves (along with media) this topic. Walker may score or assist the winner v Wet Spam! COYS!
