ottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has given his verdict on whether young right-back Kyle Walker-Peters is ready to start against Newcastle United in next weekend's Premier League opener.

Kieran Trippier left Wembley on crutches after an ankle injury in Spurs' 2-0 friendly win against Juventus and that leaves Pochettino thin on the ground when it comes to right-backs with Kyle Walker sold to Manchester City this summer.

The only alternatives to Trippier now are the inexperienced Kyle Walker-Peters, who took his place against Juventus but is yet to make his senior debut for Tottenham.

The other choice is to use Eric Dier at right-back, where he started off his Spurs career.

football.london asked Pochettino whether Walker-Peters was ready to be handed his debut against Newcastle next Sunday.

"He's very young. It's true that to think and to give the big responsibility like Kieran, it's too much today for him," he admitted. "He's a player that needs to work with us and maybe start to play in different games but we cannot think that he is, in the case of Kieran weeks away from the team, only he can replace him.

"I think we are working [towards transfers], but we were working before that happened and try to find the solutions in different positions on the pitch."

Worth Keeping Sissoko around till after Sunday.

One game he will be up for is this.

You would think

Real Deal - 6/8/2017 08:39

Dier will play at RB.

When Dier leaves next season, it won't be about money, only footballing reasons.

Playing 2nd fiddle to an inferior DM , he gets moved around to every position possible including LCB and RB because we're not willing to invest and buy half decent backup players.

That's true when the window closes and we haven't got the target we wanted, as of now, it isn't. There's still plenty of time for us to secure our targets.

No question there are some log jams in Europe, but I await the last few weeks of the transfer window still confident we'll finally land the players we're trying to.

You're naive if you think that Dier wont be chucked around this season as well.

Would you like a small wager on that? :17:

Out of all our better players, I think he is the most at risk for the reasons above, plus he has said himself he has no issues going abroad as playing in England is abroad to him

Anythings possible, but at this moment in time, I'm very confident we're not selling another player - no matter what the price.

I remember an interview with Dier and he was asked a question along the lines of what description of him annoys him the most. His answer, utility man.

We've got to start using him at what he's best at. Get a RB to do the job of a RB.
