Get real. There's nothing new in the powers that be being out for self-interest. We sold Gerry Hitchens to Inter. Was the money re-invested? Not a penny. They tried to convert McParland into a centre-forward rather than buy a replacement. Did they care about the fans? No. The club had already been relegated but had just bounced back, a false dawn which was followed by a slow, then a fast, decline which ended in division 3, and the board finally being thrown out.
But, I think there are owners who do care. Abramovich, for a start, is obviously a fan. In fact anybody who runs a club for money is obviously on to a loser. Whether they care about the fans is a different matter but I think a lot realise that they need the fans; those that don't are probably also onto a loser.
Which it stinks is the organisations running the game. Money rules; maybe they're actually scared of turning down opportunities to boost the pot. If there's less money coming into the PL maybe they think other countries will take advantage, and trigger a decline at home. Whatever, fans aren't on the radar.
