Viewers of the BBC's new documentary series 'The Billion Dollar Chicken Shop' have reacted with fury over the revelation that each KFC branch wastes three tonnes of chicken every year.

During the segment of the programme, one employee said: “Just think of all the starving children.”

Another said: “It breaks my heart. It's worst in winter when you have people out on the streets and they're freezing, they've had nothing to eat, and we're just chucking it away.

The chain has 800 units in the UK, meaning that as much as 2,400 tonnes of waste is produced each year.

Or in other words KFC kill 1,058,400 (approx) chickens per year in the UK alone just to put them in the bin.

What a pointless complaint. Once the food is out of date it has to be discarded, or they'd be sued millions

One thing this will no doubt do is make them less wasteful, takes pressure to do that and now they are under pressure, they should react.

So hopefully a positive for food banks or even better, efficiency.

It is one thing killing animals to eat, it is quite another to totally waste them.

They could give it to Deano though. You know how black people love fried chicken.

I don't think they have rice and peas in KFC but they should be able to sort you out with some grape drink.

LOL. That was my first thought as well. I bet many households waste a proportionate amount due to use by dates.

As Deano quite rightly highlights, I'm also off to get a meal, to prevent this terrible waste.

Can't stand KFC anyway. Watched the program out of interest. Some thought it was a fab career to have. Whatever floats your boat I suppose.

People want to eat it so it keeps people in work

Personally hate wasting anything, love to use up what I buy, it's very rare and always a mistake when something doesn't get used.

Not watched this programme, will see if it is repeated or on demand.

Bit too greasy for me KFC but then, I like what I cook really so don't like any fast food places these days.
