Anyone going?

I'm making my first visit to Canterbury for years. Anyone with any parking advice? I usually park in the school but reckon it may be busy today.

I imagine the school will be busy as there is no parking on the ground any more, so School is the closest car park, I think. There is a park and ride just by the pub as you come on the the old Dover road - never used it myself.

I haven’t driven there for years as usually get dropped off or get the train (as live quite local now), but on a Sunday, some of the parking and single yellow line restrictions didn’t apply on some of the roads around the housing off of the new Dover road - about 5-10min walk. Not sure if that is still the case?

Would be a massive step to the quarters for the spitfires if they can do it. I’ll have to settle for listening on the radio whilst watching the charity shied in the garden!

SteveTreacle - what a horrible day, how can you put up with that, a couple of beers:cool:. Have a brilliant afternoon.

Doing similar cold Guinness in hand listening to ska. Hard life.

Not proper cricket. The test match at Edgbaston was the real deal.

One county, Warwickshire I think, apparently had 11 days playing in July out of 31 thanks to the T20 etc alia abominations.

I don’t think any long-term cricket fans will disagree about Test Cricket being the pinnacle but T20 does bring money, attention and appeal to a wider audience, some will stick to T20 but some will grow to love Test Cricket; as long as there are fans for all forms of cricket then I don’t care. T20 also offers a relatively short/cheap family/friendly day out. Would love to be going on an afternoon like this for a few hours.

but the true skills of the game are diluted.

What’s worse is due to the cuntishness of modern cricket, they are called “Birmingham” in white ball cricket! To be fair, I am a big fan of T20 in the current format, but massively against any plans for city franchising at the exclusion of the likes of kent.

Obviously, Test cricket is the be all and end all, but is a lot more well supported and more entertaining In england as opposed to elsewhere in the world - partly due to the culture and passion of our fans who love test cricket, but also due to the fact that our groundsmen tend to produce wickets with a bit in it for the bowler, but also good batting wickets if you apply yourself - plus we use a proper ball in the Dukes, which always offers something for the bowler from over 1 to 80. In short, test cricket is thriving in England - as the crowds will attest. I’ll be there on Thursday at lord’s - managed to get a single ticket for £100, but otherwise a complete sell out.

Spot on, which makes the ECB’s plans for city based franchising all the more ridiculous as they’ll be taking Premier T20 cricket away from the likes of my 6 year old son in Kent and others across the country in places like Leicester, Essex, Bristol, Somerset, Northampton etc etc.

School no longer available I believe; so, Park and Ride is the answer, although too late now as they've already kicked off.

I do usually enjoy the T20 and watch most games on Sky.

The only ones I don't enjoy are those where there is not the proper balance between bat and ball.

Last week they showed Surrey v Middlesex and Middlesex posted 221 only for Surrey to knock it off in 16 overs.

The wicket was so true, the white ball had very little seam to work with and there were the usual fielding restrictions. Aaron Finch looks mighty impressive whacking sixes everywhere but he is the ultimate flat track bully and struggles when there is any movement in the air or off the pitch.

Ended up looking more like a Baseball game as the ball kept disappearing out of the ground.

Well that was a stuttering innings from Kent and a pretty poor score against a very limited gloucester bowling line up.

Gloucester’s batting line up is equally limited and we have a couple of international bowlers, so game is still on. Hopefully someone will shut up this smug toff of a Gloucester commentator.

That’s the Kent way- could have put our foot in the QF today, but lost tamely to a poor side (Gloc doing ok in the T20, but I’d only take about 2 of their players in our team).

Reckon we’ll still get in the QF but will make hard work of it and probably won’t get the hom QF.

Bowling department is our weakness and will probably find us out in the latter stages og the competition assuming we qualify

F### this ridiculous city s#it.

Can just about support county 20/20 but this franchise bollocks is a step too far for me. Don't give a sh#t who wins. Have no affiliation.

Agree with all of that
