Should never have been pushed out the door in the first place considering he was still performing so well compared to others in the side. Best thing they could do now is include him in the playing squad for next season.

This ongoing obsession with all things Stevo is for me becoming a tad unhealthy. Can we not move on & sensibly address the issues of the here and now rather than constantly looking back sentimentally?

What supporters (conveniently) appear to forget is that his body was failing him at the very end of his career. So talk of him somehow representing the first team again is somewhat fanciful.

By gleefully fixating on the Stevo appointment perhaps supporters should be considering the choice of the two assistants. Their identity probably accurately sums up where the club is at. And that's not in a good way.

Nonsense. Darren Stevens blindfolded with one hand tied behind his back is still better than most of the players that represented the team last season.

Except if Stevens can get our bowlers to bowl line and length on a more consistent basis, I’d be one happy chappy. He was a master at it. Surely that’s worth his appointment alone. Personally I’ve become fed up with our bowlers bowling four decent balls in an over, getting obviously bored and then bowling some half arsed short bowl (obviously completely deliberately) and watching it sail to the boundary thereby releasing any pressure. In my mind that sums up our recent approach to bowling in the four day game.

I would agree with that. I didn't realise that Mark Ealham coached at Kent CCC for 7 years after he retired. He bowled a good line and length at niggling medium pace and Stevo did similar.

Discipline is the name of the game and clearly Joseph didn't instil enough of it to bowl any League Two teams out for under 400 to 450.

I am a bit more optimistic for the coming season if we can keep an attack of Keith Dudgeon, Jas Singh and Matt Milnes fit. On paper, it is an upgrade.

My comment about him playing was somewhat tongue in cheek. At least the club seems to have made a decent appointment for once. Absolutely not expecting him to perform miracles.

I'd take avoiding bottom place as decent progress next season

This simply has to be the strangest contract Kent have ever dished out ?
I have to admit I really don't know that much about him .But unless when he is fit he is up there with the best I really don't understand this contract at all?
Maybe others have a more positive view I hope so?

I know what you mean but the article suggests that he is going to be part of the coaching set up as well as playing some games. I assume he has been taking some badges and will help with the young talent that is coming through and was being blooded late last season.

Denly Junior, Ekansh Singh. Jas Singh, Ben Dawkins and I think a couple of others.

Leaning has left and if Crawley and Billings, who don't play many games for us anyway, leave as well we might be light on experience.

I would probably opt to keep Bell Drummond and Finch but, if we lose them as well, we will have a younger and fitter team but with few senior players to guide them.

He in fact signed the new deal before the end of last season but it's only just been made official.

Very fortunate given his recent injury record. Two years is excessive but I'm reliably informed there are clauses within the contract relating to appearances/performance metrics.

All the other outstanding contract decisions will be announced very soon - Cohen, DBD, Klaassen & of course Billings. None of these players are leaving the club according to my sources.

Expect an announcement soon re an overseas player. Think I know the identity but will keep schtumn as not 100% certain & I dislike speculation.

Billings is NOT leaving the club. Just in case you're getting your hopes up.

Do we have any more up and coming young 'keepers whose careers he can block?

TBF, I don't think Billings has blocked anyone. He was away a lot with England and playing a lot of T20 when Robinson decided to leave - I suspect Durham made him a better offer as they have a Test Ground - and Michael Pepper still keeps wicket for Essex, so by that reasoning Jordan Cox is still being "blocked" if he sees himself as a prospective England wicket keeper.

And Alan Knott clearly blocked Paul Downton's career for a while. I think maybe Marsh and Farbrace were around at the same time as well?

The role of Billings & his contribution towards the departures of Cox & Robinson remains a source of conjecture.

Just laughed at the idea that possibly the world's greatest ever 'keeper and surely England's (esp if we include batting) 'blocked' anyone's progress
