Probably about time this fella had his own thread.

Chris Wise is reporting that Kenny Jackett will later today be announced as Pompey manager on a two-year deal with Joe Gallen as his assistant (who he also worked with at Wolves and Rotherham).

He's the man that everyone wanted, and already looks like he is reuniting the fans who seemed divided under Cook.

This could change once we start playing football, but it's good to have him here and with plenty of time to make the squad his own before the season starts.

Thoughts?

Jackett signs a deal and Joe Gallen comes as his assistant

I am very happy with this choice and the speed with which it has happened, can't fault it on paper. Best of luck to him.

I'll also always be grateful to Paul Cook for what he did. I've really enjoyed following Portsmouth the last 2 seasons and I have never understood why some fans were so hateful towards him when we were never outside the play off places.

Best of luck to Cookie, sorry to see him leave but - admittedly I wouldn't have had Kenny Jackett at the first name I thought of - think we've landed a good manager you know.

Jackett has a wealth of experience, and proven ability in League One, so I think he'll do well and is perhaps the leader we needed going forward, one that will have a better understanding of working under American ownership and be better suited.

Yes, an appointment I'm happy with and a manager who appears to have a lot of support from personalities within the game who speak highly of him.

Provisional trips Ireland and the Algarve look as if they've been binned by Jackett. He has reassessed the plans pencilled in by his predecessor Cook and feels Roko is a suitable base.

A would-he wouldn't-he came to a head last week when Cook was confirmed as Wigan boss. Disappointing? Yes. But that's football, you move on. Jackett appears to please the masses.

Of course, this was only a friendly and was, with all due respect, only against Southern League Salisbury, as Claridge turned out, but Jackett made a winning start as Pompey boss.

The arrival of Swindon's Nathan Thompson - a deal orchestrated by Paul Cook before he left for Wigan - is so far the only one Kenny Jackett has managed to secure as Pompey boss.

Kenny Jackett, having used 22 players in his first game as Pompey boss in the 3-0 win at Salisbury last week, isn't looking to make as many when the Blues head to Havant this afternoon.

There was a little frustration for a while from some wasn't there but I think the signings Jackett has made look very promising.

A decent squad was inherited, he's added some up and coming talent with proven quality - a fine blend.

Kenny Jackett put pen to paper on a contract extension ahead of the defeat at Peterborough on Tuesday. Meanwhile, former Pompey striker Yakubu has called it a day.

Kenny Jackett has previous with QPR, but could the Pompey boss be tempted back to Loftus Road as replacement for Ian Holloway?

Can't imagine there is much in this, anyway, compo and getting Holloway wouldn't be the end of the world!!

more of an issue over the coming months for me is to get Burgess signed up to a new contract.

I'd be happy if QPR kept Holloway and we Jackett tbh as I think Jackett could build something at Fratton.

Like you though weller not convinced it'll amount to anything and QPR 'played it down' anyway didn't they.

Absolutely, agree about Burgess, who I think could move on in the New Year if a new deal isn't signed sharpish - admittedly think I'd sooner lose Burgess over Matt Clarke mind. However, ideally we keep both!

I'm not unhappy with Jackett but must admit I'm still a little surprised a new and extended contract was offered this week.

Doubt few saw that coming? Despite links to Wales being played down, you cannot help but think that's played a part... not that a contract extension would do much to prevent this if it was wanted anyway!

The November nominations for the Sky Bet League One Manager of the Month Award are in.

Did Kenny Jackett bring in too little experience and allowed too much of it to leave? Well, in the light of the Southend defeat chris1954 certainly believes that to be the case.

Ouch, 'what a mess' is the assessment of Pompeysurrey when commenting on the current situation at Fratton Park.
