Kane v Ronaldo

A lot of people in this country have been mocking Harry Kane for saying he wants to be the Worlds greatest striker. With lots of people saying how dare he! etc etc. Kane is English of course he is crap etc etc.

If however you look at the stats Harry Kane has every right to target that.

Ronaldo is now 33 but he was 24 the same age as Harry Kane is now when he left Man U for Madrid. He had played 223 League games and scored 87 League goals at the same age Harry Kane has played 206 League games and scored 122 League goals including 108 in 150 games for Spurs.

Ronaldo has subsequently gone on to score 311 goals for Madrid in 292 League games but let's be honest what is the depth of the Spanish league. Outside of Barcelona, Real and Atletico Madrid the opposition is patchy at best! Kane is playing in Spurs team that hasn't won anything and is by no means the best in the English League.

So to those that Mock Harry Kane take a look at the facts first! It's about scoring goals not how spectacular they are! I don't think enough people in this country appreciate what a goal scoring gem we have!

If there's one thing guaranteed to get me hook, line and sinker it's posters who underestimate the depth of quality in the Spanish League. That League has provided 9 out of the last 10 European club competition winners. The quality below the top 6 in England is also questionable, hence.... Burnley.

When Ronaldo was at Manchester United he mostly played wide, so his scoring rate overall looks low. In has last two seasons there he scored 49 league goals in 67 games.

At Real Madrid, where he has been throughout the peak of his career, his goals per game in the Champions League is almost identical to that of his goals ratio in Spanish League games. As is Messi's. If the league were so much easier then you would expect the scoring rate to be much lower in the Champions League.

Spurs, incidentally, achieved 77 points last season. That's one more point than the triple-Champions League winners managed in their supposedly easier domestic league. As you point out, of course, Spurs are mostly famous for winning nothing. The last manager who won a trophy at Spurs was Juande Ramos.

There aren't many out-and-out strikers about any more and Kane could well develop into the best goalscorer in the world, he has at least been consistent for his club. But he actually said he wants to be the "best player" in the world and he does himself no favours with that as there aren't any other players even close to Ronaldo or Messi.

So, in conclusion, he should keep his damn fool mouth shut and do his talking on the pitch. He's no orator.

Kane is a very good striker, I think I already said that, but his comments about himself invite ridicule. Like those claims he made about getting a touch on some goal in his desperation to be top scorer in the League.

There's nothing wrong with trying to be the best you can be, but you should keep those thoughts to yourself unless you want to take the inevitable criticism for appearing self-interested, vain and not altogether in the same class as those you're comparing yourself with.

time is on kane's side, and the media love a prolific goalscorer. ronaldo is 33, messi is 30. so in a couple of years time the 'best player in the world' debate won't include those two.
