KAA Gent v Tottenham Hotspur

Tino

Vital Reserves Team
Perhaps it's time to brush aside the poor performance and result against Liverpool the other day and focus our attention on Thursday's Europa League game against KAA Gent.

Should Poch take this competition seriously and field the strongest possible starting XI?

OyVeh Maria will of course write his usual Vital Spurs preview in due course.

I would like to see Poch take this seriously and rather than rest key players, I would prefer to see the same team given a rocket up the arse and told to go out again and put right a lot of wrongs from Saturday!

Maybe play strong away at Gent and rest a few for the home tie if we have a good aggregate lead.

First team please for this/fulham and return leg if need be

Full strength. Simple. The Fulham game is for the reserves.

The only change I'd consider making is this:

Lloris
Walker - Dier - Toby - Wimmer - Davies
Wanyama - Dembele
Son - Dele
Kane

Give Eriksen a couple of games off.

If last season is anything to go by...seeing we haven't really learned any lessons from it:

We are challenging for the title....week later, we are not ready for the title

We take all competitions seriously....oops! out of EL 'cos of indecision and tinkering with selection.

Ah, we have a great chance for the FA Cup....well, let's put our reserves out v Fulham. Poch has only just understood the FA cup, following the Wycombe game!

Finally - Poch - it is not important to finish above ars*nal. So if ars*nal finish 4th, one guess where we may finish!

:10:

My order of priority is finish above ars*nal, F A Cup, European Cup, top 4. Sorry if this upsets folks I am just old fashioned.

Gent is probably closer than playing Sunderland so I hope there is no whinging about travel tiredness !!!

For this one I would give Gent all the respect. It's an away European game so I would have no issue throwing Dier and Wanyama together in midfield and then play Dembele, Alli and Sissoko ahead of them. With a back five of Lloris, Walker, Toby, Wimmer and Davies I'd be looking to get beyond half time with a clean sheet and then see what the pattern of play is. I'd then have Eriksen, Son, Janssen and N'Koudou waiting in the wings to try and get the away goal or two in the second half. Winks would also be on the bench waiting to freshen the midfield at some point.

I certainly wouldn't take the risk again of Son not protecting his full-back or Eriksen going missing for periods of the game. I'd start with eleven fighters for this one and take it from there even if it looked like 4-5-1 for some of it.

It's an hour fight or 2h 50 mins by coach and tunnel, so yes, there is no excuse for tiredness or travel fatigue in this one!

Wimmer needs game time, that's for sure!

As far as I am concerned we have to go out and try to win the EL and the FA cup, we aren't going to win the PL and play as we did against Pool and we are going to struggle to stay in top 4. Son is never going to trackback and help Davies or whoever on a consistent basis, IMO he is a good substitute to bring on and run at defences.

I think Poch is going to play around with team selection and we will be up shit creek!

Be nice to see us have some backbone and play our best 11 this is a tournament we should focus on winning especially as we have been starved of silverware for what seems forever. This club from top to bottom need to grow a pair.

Putting our reserves out in the FA cup has almost cost us. Fulham are no mugs and are in good form. We need to put the best teams out possible.

Let's go all out for the EL. I want another 1984 moment and Anderlecht are still in it too.
And this time I will be able to get pissed LOL, :8: :8: :8:

Best 11 sent out after a good kick up the arse and a chance for them to get that woeful performance against Liverpool out of their system.

No more of what we've seen in the last few seasons, a half arsed team sent out to Gent, which loses, a half arsed team sent to Fulham which draws at best, and the first 11 saved to drop points in the PL which always seems to happen.

Sorry, but not holding my breath about the best 11 v Gent. I'd like to see N'Koudou, Wimmer, Winks and Janssen start rather than either being ostracised or used for 10 mins. We may actually find a couple of these providing the necessary kick up the back side to some of the so called best 11, who seem to want to turn up when they feel like it. Personally I'd drop Eriksen, leave Demebele out (to start planning for the future with Winks), Sonny on bench and Dier back to where he belongs rather than a pretend Mr Versatile.

I'd also like to see some of our players to STFU when facing the media, e.g., Dier is quoted on 2 different articles on SkySports, a fist pumping rally cry. How many times have we heard that?!

It's time to dig out your crystal ball, give it a rub and then tell us what you can see?
