Thoughts on throwing Bellingham in now..

It’s a tricky one. Just 16 years old. Do you throw a kid in now or break him in over this season and next? OK Francis did it for us at 16 but these days.. football is much more athletic and dynamic.

This is what I think should happen. Maybe the odd start but mostly on the bench, coming on in the 65th or 70th minute this season.

Next season, more of a regular but for goodness sake do not tire this kid out.

Season after, hopefully, he will be the real deal and a large transfer fee out of the club with that money re-invested in the youth and scouting set up. And any transfer fee has a large future sale clause in it e.g. 25% of future sale.

FourFourTwo magazine had him down as “one of the 50 most exciting teenagers in English football”. He will be in the top 10 in that list by May I reckon.

So here’s what I fear will happen. Next summer. Sold to a mid-ranking Prem club for £8 million. End. Small or no future buy on clause. Rinse and repeat. Club treads water at best. ?
