Joy and embarrassment ....

Even Attlee closed 110........Wilson in his 10 yrs closed a lot more than Thatcher in 11.....almost a third more...

If one googles mine closures, Conservative Home and The Daily Blackshirt headline your statement. Every other site gives somewhat of a more balanced presentation of the same facts. Wilson closed a lot of very small mines at the end of their economically viable life. Thatcher was responsible for exponentially more job losses and the destruction of mining communities. Factamundo.

The left is not always right Bear remove the blinkers now and again,

You are entitled to your own opinions but not to your own facts as my old mucker Confucius was wont to say. When the NCB during the Wilson years closed mines the miners were re employed in other nearby mines.
On another tack, coalmining, despite the sense of community, was a horrible and dangerous job, a relic of the past and a major conributor to global warming. Had Thatcher created alternative employment in mining areas less damage to society would have occurred. In much the same way, had she allowed more council houses to be built with the proceeds of the sale of council houses, l would have applauded her for a social revolution.
