Josh Onomah Thread

As this is a business, I don’t understand the Onomah situation.

If Green was fit, he wouldn’t get a look in on the left wing. In the middle, we have our own player in Lansbury and youth talent in O’Hare.

I don’t rate Onomah that highly, I’ve seen him have a handful of good games given he’s the player who should be on the ball more and control the game given the quality & experience around him, he’s the legs and energy (or should be). I don’t think his attitude is that great for us, of course he should have ambitions to play for Spurs but he seems more focussed on that than he is trying to prove his quality in the 2nd tier.

The cynic in me might lead me to believe there is a clause in the loan contract regarding appearances so that the Poch can get a good screening of him - is that allowed?

I read somewhere that Pochitinio doesn't believe in loaning out young players. He thinks they can do a better job coaching them up at Spurs.

When Onomah joined it was the first I'd heard of him and was a little disappointed we were taking a loan player when we have our own youth players.

So far, he's looked good in patches but despite the hype, he's not the best player on the pitch. If you are playing in the hole, you should be running the game.

He's highly rated by spurs but apparently Pochettino thinks his best position is as a box to box player whereas the lad himself thinks it's playing off the striker where we're playing him. Personally I'd agree with Pochettino from what I've seen. I think he's a good player and if he keeps his head screwed on right he could be a very good player.

Josh wants to go back to Spurs at the end of season, according to this. I can't see the point in waiting for the end of season now:

You do have to wonder.

Considering the amount of time on the pitch he has enjoyed this season, the number of decent performances are few and far between. I'm not expecting the kind to play like Lionel Messi every week, but if his efforts on the pitch don't merit continued inclusion, why is he not at least moved to the bench?

Managers have always have their weird favourites, players seemingly undroppable whatever form they are in. Onomah does appear to fit into that bracket, unless he does indeed have some appearance stipulation in his loan deal.

I think there's a Liverpool player at Cardiff (Grujic from memory) who has it in the conditions that he must play at least 14 games or Liverpool will be entitled to some kind of compensation (?!), so it must be permissible.

I think he's finding the adjustment to the Championship a bit tougher than he/we thought. It's ok playing in the Spuds, U23s and England U21s, but playing in the Championship is a step up. Decent run of games behind him and he'll be ok I feel as he's not had a decent run in the team really.

Him and Davis were the real deal v QPR and at times in other games as well, the trouble is since then Onomah has had 3 stinkers in a row. Is that Bruce's fault ? I think not.

Who here knows how SB tells individual players to play on a game to game basis, who here knows what individual tactical tweaks he attempts to make. What I do find strange is the number of players who don't perform at a consistent level - now that could well have something to do with the manager.

I think Poch might be right. For me, if you are playing the cheating position, you have to be able to unlock defences with one touch and score double digits and I don't see Josh doing that.

He has been in an Englands U16-21s, he was part of the team who won U20's WC - England's first trophy for 50 years [and I do remember the last] .... still not good enough at Villa in the championship - excuse me ..... SB take a long hard look t yourself, him and Davis could be the deal.

I think its people on here writing Onomah off (wrongly in my opinion aswell) not Bruce. Bruce is playing both Onomah and Davis when perhaps he shouldn't be given their form so he clearly thinks they are good enough.

What I find amusing is Davis plays poorly and is excused because he is "young and inexperienced" but if Onomah is off form he is slated as not "not caring... sporadic... disappointing" despite only being a year older!

Give the lad a break. When he is on it, he truly shines. However, should he be in week in week out? Probably not. As the same befalls Davis (there because there's been no-one else). It'll be interesting to see what breaks he is given over the festive slog and for Jack to have a chance to establish himself.

Has JG ever established himself, I don't think he has even come close, some moments of magic for sure, but more than that? Agree it is sad the way Davis and Onomah are judged, I think they are both capable of being the real deal and when I have seen them link up it has been a breath of fresh air. Just saying - we should keep him. But is SB the guy to bring either on? No doubt I will be accused of SB hating again

It's always the way with younger players, a bad performance and we get on their back.

Christ Beckham wasn't Beckham until he was gone 24 and he had better loan experiences, it's all about the game time and flair players get judged harshly when a side plays shit because when you're shit you want Shaun Teale/Alan Evans type tackles going in.

I remember people on this forum saying Cahill was too lightweight, made bad decisions, jumped into tackles like a pillock instead of staying on his feet.

We re-run the cycle each and every time, how about we stop expecting them to be Ronaldo or Paul McGrath????

What are we bringing him on for?

Are we a feeder club for Spurs now?

Spursex doesn't want Spurs to sell Onomah.

Surely not? I can't see he's ready for the top half of the Premiership, can you?

I think there’s question marks over how good he is for us let alone whether or not he’s good enough for a role in a side chasing champions league qualification

We can have 8 loan players in the squad and 5 can be selected for a match day squad , I was slightly astonished by this. If we can keep him for the season that would be great .

Wouldn't be unhappy to see him go. Think his performances have been too uneven to warrant playing for us week in and week out. If he had a future with us it might be different. As it is, we're not short of midfielders and I think it would be an opportunity for others to have a go.

Wonder if there's not more behind it. He's made no secret of the fact he wants his future to be with Spurs and that might be affecting his performances with us.
