Josh Onomah Thread

Welcome Josh.

By all account Ugo Ehiogu is reasponsible for bringing him through at youth level and Josh saw ugo as a bit of a mentor.

There's a tweet from Ugo doing the rounds where he seems delighted like a proud Dad as he was there to see Josh score his first senior goal.

Hopefully the Ugo factor will make him want to do extra well at Villa.

The last player we had on loan from Spurs didn't turn out too bad Kyle Walker , lets hope this lad is as good

Yes 57, and I remember many sat around me saying he couldnt play. Looking forward to watching this lad.

Let's see if Bruce plays him and if so where. I reckon he is a box to box midfielder but Pochettino prefers him out wide. It's got to be a good signing - he must be on a high after the U20 WC this summer. I am really surprised Pochettino has let him out on loan. Good though :1:

We are where we are these days so a loan of a Spurs player who is highly rated is good. We are a million miles behind Spurs and I'm sure this lad will show us even more how far we have slipped sadly

Copied this from the transfer thread , Hope he doesn't mind, nice to get a fans feedback on him

Spurs fan (in peace and all). Anyway this seems like a good loan for him, watched him quite a bit and he is a very good player with a few youthful flaws.

Speaking to people I know who are close to the youth team Onomah is considered a very special player, more naturally talented than Winks he apparently was outstanding in training last season with the first team.

He is strong, very skilful (elegant) with a decent range of passing and speed. His best position is number 8 in the centre, Poch played himself few times last season in cup games I believe out of position which didn't help. He was great in the England U20 World Cup win and he far to good for that level IMO, it doesn't help him playing that level anymore.

However despite his very high potential at top level his positioning and ability to impose himself sometimes gets found out, he has a certain naivety sometimes that shows his lack of maturity.

Winks who was outstanding last season played a game all season that was very mature, that is why Winks is ahead and you are getting Onomah. Winks is a busy player who is never not involved in everything, Onomah needs to add that to his game, and it's not a lack of effort.

Loans are bittersweet, you cover and get a player to do a job but you lose them and essentially help another team in development terms. I feel this one will be a success, he is a good kid mentally with real talent but a lack of top level experience and naivety. Play him central with an experienced midfielder and you will see the best of him.

Good signing.... I think we're going to see a "big" exit very soon. Bruce alluded to it recently and there is still a need to balance the books from all the dud RDM/Fox signings. Hate to say it, but with all the midfielders we have, Jedi is probably the most likely to be wanted by other clubs... hope I'm wrong... Bacuna, Gardner, Hourihane, Lansbury, Bjarnasson, Whelan, Jedi, Lyden, plus the two kids who played in Germany all competing for 2/3 central midfield places....something's got to give....

Looks like another defencive midfielder to me.

You could play him like that but I am not sure he would be positionally good enough at this stage. He would be better next to the DM, providing the passing, the legs.

He is far more Dembele than Wanyama if you where to compare to older players in my team.

I'm sure his wage is lower than some of the players he's going to play ahead of.

Looks promising, next to Whelan/Jedinak it might be perfect for giving us some legs.

Would of been upset to see him go on loan to any other Championship side so its nice to see another prospect come to us.

Hate modern football.

Loans should not be allowed.

Sad to see us so far from a previous competitor to be able to train a player for them.

Awful system. Awful we are that small at the moment.

Hopefully player wise he can help us back to the land of milk and honey though. Nothing against the player (or Johnstone) just hate the loan system and that we can be seen as a feeder club.

Ideally I would prefer to blood our own but the fact is we don't have anyone good enough (and I include Grealish).

Althouhh I don't like loans as it is short term, I don't see it as a "look how far we have fallen" thing. Virtually everyone loans, Everton do it regilarlyj.

Don't know anything about this lad. Would be surprised if he is anything more than a bench / cup player. Surely Lansbury, Hourihane Bjarnsson Green and Afomah will all be ahead of him in that role (at first, at least)

Yes chaps but we loan our kids all over the place plus all the deadwood that we xhift off the wage bill like McCormack , can't have it both ways . Shame nobody wants Micah and gabby

Never heard of him.

You will be written off, told you are crap, not required and a waste of time before you set foot in pitch but welcome who ever you are.
