Johnson's got Corona

Beth Rigby = over-promoted.
I agree , she seemed to come from nowhere.
Ultimately forcing out Faisal Islam* from his position as political editor at Sky
She doesn't appear to have anything special about her.
Strange.

* Obviously a multi-talented , multi-qualified man , as he is now Business editor at the BBC.

Just been reading a article which shows how far we are behind others in our testing.

Mr. Weinstein is one of two inmates at the facility, and within New York State’s prison system, who had tested positive for the virus as of March 22.

So the Americans have tested a prison inmate. We haven't even tested many of those who work in our health service or medical services yet.

Are you suggesting that the multi-millionaire, Hollywood mogul, sex offender got special treatment ?
Nothing to do with a clemency/bail application to avoid custody ?

No, Chris appears to be suggesting that said multi-millionaire, Hollywood mogul, sex offender who got tested in prison, means that USA is far ahead of UK in its testing procedures.

Which is, frankly, an even more bizarre suggestion.

Why would you test everyone in the health system? Unless they have symptoms or are otherwise likely “candidates”, or returned from abroad etc? Testing people doesn’t stop them getting it.

If/when a vaccine is found, then healthcare people need to be head of the queue for it.

1) If a person is self isolating in case they have it then a negative test would allow them to return to work and a positive test would allow a trace of people they have been in contact with
2) if a person is unaware they are positive then a test would mean they can isolate and stop giving it to others
3) the new test that shows if you have already had the virus means you can return to or remain on the job
Coincidence that the country that performed the most test and trace (South Korea) had it under control quickest. Test test and then test some more.

Agree Jerry. Be excellent if all NHS workers could get tested. But probably have to get to those with symptoms or most likely to be at risk first. Oh, and the mega-wealthy or important 🙄

according to -

https://ourworldindata.org/coronavirus-data

UK is 6th in total number of tests performed and about 8th in total per head of population. Nearly 1,000 per million compared to USA about 320 per million. So not exactly the case that UK are far behind.

Surprised me that Australia is 4th in total tests performed (not per head). Very reassuring for us down under.

Edit - just noticed that data is about a week ago. Not sure if any numbers have changed relative to each other.

At present, tests are effectively limited to those showing symptoms

We need to test those medical staff that are off because they think they may have it. They self isolate as a precaution yet may not have the Covid 19 virus. They are therefore out of action when all medical staff are desperately required.

My police contact was one of the first to be tested. Tested the day after the "China connection" was realised. Discovered a day later that it wasn't the Covid 19 virus (was a different one). Hence her station and all the staff she had worked with could carry on working. She was back 4 days later.

These people should be the top priority for testing.

Aren’t they top priority then?

Who is top priority?

When there’s not enough tests being done (yet) not everyone can be tested immediately. But surely health workers who are suspected as having it ARE the top priority?

Two inmates have been tested positive which almost certainly means prisoners have been tested.
