Jeering crowd urge suicidal man to jump

This happened in my town. Makes you wonder about the way society is going and the types of people you live among.

Just another example of how this age of celebrity and instant media gratification has affected society with violence and death so commonplace, even in kids films, that we have not only been desensitised but have actually started to look on real life instances, like this one, as entertainment. Disgusting!

Yep, something has gone wrong in the psyche it seems. Sad thing was when I was told what people were doing I wasn't surprised. Their seems to be more and more idiots around nowadays.

Well i'm going to be controversial here and say go to beachy head or something don't do it in the town just because your having problems why should we all suffer.

I don't think the person, who is wanting to commit suicide is thinking about where they are doing it when they are doing it, though gator

Fair enough KK and I suppose i'm being selfish here but iv'e been held up for two hours here when someone was wanting to jump off the Tyne bridge but why should I be and others be dragged into it for no reason.

If memory serves me right, the majority of very public suicides are more a cry for help and attention, which these people obviously need, someone obviously did the job and talked them down, the real question is would you donate two hours of your time to help save the life of a complete stranger? Of course you would mate and in a way you did.

I'd like to think that everyone would, but these arseholes encouraged a man to feel so worthless that he took the nosedive, I'd also like to think that their selfish acts will haunt their dreams for years, but I doubt it somehow.

I am so close to jacking in this way of life and going to live in a bloody mountain somewhere.

Its getting worse. I actually love not listening to the news at the weekend. Shame it's on 7 days a week at work

is this really a sign of the times?

Or have people always had a certain morbid curiosity with death.

Just think back to the days of public hangings, beheadings etc... they used to draw the crowds in. Always found it very bizzare personally, why you'd want to se anyone hung, but it's happened throughout time.

Jeering people on rather than helping them is just plain sick though, but I think the morbid facisnation with death and wanting to see people die has been around for centuries.

Hanged Deano, not hung :17:

Seriously though, you are right about the morbid curiosity, just look at all the "rubber-neckers" every time there's an RTA, but there is a pretty clear line that has been crossed when people start to encourage suicide in this way. For me, that's where the problem lies.

Well yeah there is no way I would encourage him to jump and yeah if I knew him I would give him my time I have done it I took and old mate of mine in when he was at his lowest ebb after losing his son and the break down of his marriage. But that's what gets me if it's a cry for help then seek help tell someone there are people out there who will listen in a way I feel a bit guilty over this subject because my cousin who is more like my brother tried to take his life when we just in our mid twenties and very nearly succeeded through overdose. At the time he had a young baby daughter and him and his ex were not getting and were really making a show of themselves but they used to bring it out with them so me and my mates used to avoid them and then obviously he did what he did so I have blamed myself a little for that even though there is no way I knew that things had got so bad.So this is why I feel a little resentment towards this kind of thing because it's not just their own life they are affecting.

Some reports say that the police are reviewing CCTV coverage to try to identify people who were urging the man to jump

Can be construed as an incitement to commit suicide which is a criminal offence. Also the sharing of such a scene on social media may also be a criminal offence

Even if just one person got convicted it may prevent a repeat

I have despaired of human nature for years, just another example

As for having your day interrupted by such an event it is hardly as if it happens very often is it? This is such a me-me-me now-now-now society that many people cannot cope with it

Suicide stats were the highest ever in 2013

They are nothing more than Bacteria. No, I take that back, Bacteria grow from each other. Struggling to think of a species that would goad and taunt someone to kill themselves? What dreadful soulless individuals. Gives me the utter creeps. I hope they arrest them and take them to court.

RIP to the poor guy who ended his life. A dreadful place to be in when things are that desperate that you want to take your own life.
