Japhet Tanganga - Player Thread

I love this man. Whilst people rave about how eriksen could find a pass. Kane can score with ease etc etc. This guy knows the art of defending. I watched closely and I lost count of the times the city players went wide, realised he was standing them up and ready to deal with any burst of speed so 99% of the time they decided it was better to turn back. He also knows how to cover properly. Even out of position, Toby and co can safely cover him safe in the knowledge that he will simply slot into their position and not let them down. I see him as a mix of Ledley and Walker which is absolutely frightening. I also think part of Toby looking revitalised is because he actually wants to work with this lad. Give him parity with Toby and vert wages wise, he is that good already

What we have to give Poch absolute credit for is the planned squad openings to get him in and give him his shot. So good is he, that Jose had no hesitation trusting him as well!

And he is going to a top-class defender, even more remarkable when you consider our academy never produces PL class player - apparently !!

The son of ledley has saved the club around £40-50 as of now; what will he end being worth in this crazy market come the summer?!

Tottenham starlet Japhet Tanganga in talks over staggering 1500 PER CENT pay rise after breaking into Jose Mourinho's first-team
  • Japhet Tanganga has broken into Jose Mourinho's first-team in recent weeks
  • The Tottenham youngster is now in talks over a staggering 1500 per cent pay rise
  • He currently earns around £1,000 a week but will be boosted to £15,000 a week
  • That figure would also be topped up by a lucrative incentive package

Tottenham rookie defender Japhet Tanganga is in talks over a staggering 1500 percent pay rise following his first-team breakthrough.
There was a degree of negativity over the 20-year-old signing fresh terms when discussions initially started towards the end of last year - but his recent emergence as a key member of Jose Mourinho's first-team has resulted in Tottenham accelerating talks.
And there is now growing hope Tanganga will pen a new long-term deal in the not too distant future.

Mourinho's arrival as Tottenham boss has been a huge positive for the Spurs youngster

The youngster currently earns a basic wage in the region of £1,000-per-week, but Spurs are offering him a huge pay-rise which would take his salary to around £15,000-per-week.

That figure would also be topped up by a lucrative incentive package that would see his deal move closer towards £20,000-per-week.
There will also be a promise of another new contract and pay rise should he make a certain number of first-team appearances.

Mourinho handed Tanganga a shock Premier League debut in January - starting the versatile defender in the 1-0 loss to Liverpool.

Tanganga has started in all but one of Tottenham's proceeding fixtures, firmly establishing himself as one Mourinho's first-team players.
Tanganga, who has represented England at Under 20 level, is now set for an Under-21 call-up for the games against Andorra and Turkey in March.

Seems to me the comms team have decided to hold something back for the winter break. Let's face it, there's nothing to discuss for 10 days so having new contracts to celebrate will fill some space on the official website. Wonder whether Victor might be making a story or two as well.

My only concern with the lad is that he gets moved around positions too much for too long. He is talented and hard working, so using him as a stop gap for now makes sense, but I hope the coaching team know his best position and start giving him proper minutes.

His one weakness at CB is his height, I like my CBs 2-3 inches taller.

After his performance vs Pool I really want him to play RB until the end of the season.

He's incredibly strong, his upper body strength is as good as if not better than anyone at the club, when he hits you, you stay hit (I am told). He has a hell of a leap on him, so I don't believe his height is a particular disadvantage, but we'll see soon enough.

Personally, I think he's a CB and that was his path into the first team this/next season, but it is interesting to see Jose moving him around like this. As he has quick feet and given his strength for a long time it was thought he'd end up a 'traditional' DM'er - which personally, I'd love to see him tried in that role next!

He reminds me of a top in form Palacios. Which isn't a bad thing.

I see him in a similar vein to Gomez at Liverpool. Tbh I see Gomez as future world class and he can only learn beside VVD. He spent a season or 2 learning and covering at full back before specialising in CB position. It can’t be a bad thing to understand the issues and difficulties faced by a modern full back when they are expected to attack so much that they desperately need the CB to provide some cover. Tanganga is young, I want him to be the best and I believe he can become the best.

With regards to pay, I hope they sold him the £15k contract with a year added every year linked to a substantial pay rise. A bit like Kane’s. £30k next year + year added. £60k the year after, £120k year after. He will get tapped up so we need these type of contracts. I haven’t seen a better physical specimen suited to modern defensive football duties.

Japhet says he has played LB very little before but has developed his understanding of the position under Jose.
When Davies comes back not only will Japhet provide rotational cover but could challenge for the place. But that poses the question.....where will his best position be ?

Midfield or Centre Back. He can play either and look very very comfortable in both.

What happens when Davies is back ? Who would you pick at RB, Serge or Japhet ? Or will he leapfrog Sanchez to replace the ageing Vert ?

My favored back four would be:

LB - Davies
CB - Japhet
CB - Toby (hoping Sanchez develops and eventually take over)
RB - Aurier
