January Window

Owen Watkinson has joined National League North side Curzon Ashton on a loan deal until the end of the season.

The 18-year-old forward enjoyed a loan spell at Northern Premier League side, Clitheroe FC in the first part of the season, where he scored four goals in 19 appearances.

Nottingham has joined Crewe until the end of the season.
Still awaiting that elusive striker to be signed!

Carlisle United have signed Blackpool left-back Nick Anderton on an 18-month deal for an undisclosed fee.

The 23-year-old defender, once a youth target for the Cumbrians, moved to Bloomfield Road from Barrow in 2017.

"He'll bring experience, quality and strength. I'm very excited that he's here," head coach Chris Beech said.

"He's gone about his career the hard way, but that means he's got real character and it sometimes helps a player to become very committed."

Anderton's most recent appearance for Blackpool was a Leasing.com Trophy fixture at Brunton Park in October.

"I know this is a challenge he's looking forward to. He wants to make an impact and he wants to help us to win games," Beech added.

"He knows he has to earn the right to be in the team, but he's coming here very focused and in a positive frame of mind."

Trenchcoat has posted on AVFTT that we are in for Gary Madine. Decent, but not really a fox in the box

Blackpool have made an offer for free agent striker Gary Madine, according to The Sun journalist Alan Nixon on Twitter (tweet below).

Simon Grayson’s side are hoping the experienced forward drops into League One to help in their push for promotion.
Madine, who is 29 years old, parted company with Championship side Cardiff City earlier this month and is weighing up his next move.

The Bluebirds paid £6 million to sign him from Bolton Wanderers in January 2018 but he struggled to hit the ground running in Wales. He was loaned out to Sheffield United for the second-half of last season and was part of the Blades’ side who were promoted to the Premier League.

Madine is also no stranger to gaining promotion from the third tier, having helped Sheffield Wednesday and Bolton Wanderers get out of the division in 2012 and 2017 respectively.

Blackpool are calling for him now as they aim to return to the Championship. Grayson’s men are currently 13th in the league and five points off the Play-Offs.
Madine would be ideal for the Tangerines and has scored 85 goals in all competitions so far in his career having also had spells in the past at Carlisle United, Rochdale, Chesterfield and Coventry City.
Blackpool’s contract offer is believed to be a healthy one and they will be hoping they can sharpen their attacking options by bringing in Madine.

Good stuff:
Blackpool Football Club can announce the return of striker Gary Madine on an 18-month contract.

The 29-year-old, who had a brief stint with the Seasiders in 2015, arrives back at Bloomfield Road on a free transfer, having most recently played for Cardiff City.
A four-time promotion winner, Madine helped fire Sheffield Wednesday and Bolton Wanderers to the Championship in 2012 and 2017 respectively, scoring a combined total of 54 goals in his time with the two sides.

Born in Gateshead, he started his playing career with Carlisle United and last term helped Sheffield United reach the Premier League during a key stage of the season.
Chief Executive Ben Mansford said:
“Owner Simon Sadler has been incredibly supportive in helping to make this deal happen. Gary was our number one striking target in this window, so we are absolutely delighted to bring him back to Blackpool. He has a fantastic record at this level and we firmly believe he will help us realise our ambitions as a Club. Welcome back, Gary.”

"The Bluebirds paid £6 million to sign him from Bolton". Fkin idiots

Looking like a Frenchie replacement to me. Still think we need a sniffer in the box

Cardiff paper

""Gary is a North East lad and sometimes family has to come first.

"If the club could have recouped some of the money they paid they would have liked to have done, but circumstances dictated what happened.

"My support goes to Gary and it’s probably the right decision all round."

Statistically he has scored one goal every 4.5 appearances (382 appearances/85 goals)

Jail can make or break. Troy Deeney springs to mind.

A goal every 2 games is the benchmark for a good striker.

He wasn't Bob.

I did have Kelvin Etuuhu though - he came on as a Baadiff first half sub in the 2010 play off final.

Only Pool player I have had that I can remember was Paul Edwards.

Stoke City are edging towards the unveiling of Blackpool midfielder Jordan Thompson.

And they are hoping to do it in time for the 23 year-old to be included in Michael O'Neill's plans for Monday night's trip to West Bromwich Albion.

Stoke and Blackpool have been locked in talks and now Stoke are close to tying up the loose ends on a deal with the player himself.

Thompson is a player well know to O'Neill after he gave the left footer his international debut against Luxembourg in September 2018.

O'Neill has also played him twice from the bench and once from the start in Euro 2020 qualifying earliier this season.

Yesterday, O'Neill said: “Jordan’s a player I know, obviously. He’s a young player with a lot of potential and he has broken into the senior Northern Ireland squad having been a mainstay of the under-21s team.

Preston goalkeeper Chris Maxwell looks to be heading to the arch-rivals Blackpool.

The Tangerines hope the shotstopper will arrive in time for this weekend's trip to Lincoln City.

The 29-year-old aims to link up with Pool boss Simon Grayson for a second time. He played under Grayson at Deepdale, having joined Preston from Fleetwood Town in 2016.

Maxwell is due to have his contract cancelled with Alex Neil’s side, paving the way for his move to Bloomfield Road.

The Welshman has been on loan with Scottish Premiership side Hibernian this season, making 17 appearances, but has not featured as much since the arrival of Jack Ross as Hibs boss.

Thompson would be no loss on his last few months showing.
Looks to have gone backwards after scoring his only goal of this season.
He's temperamental as shown v Burton last season and should have flourished in this team. I have been disspointed with his lack of progress. Rather Virtue any any of the week.
Stow ke are getting a player who falls over and grabs the ball as he hits the deck.
We will be getting a 7 figure fee in return for a young full international.
