January 2026 Transfer thread

Zinchenko is on a season long loan, so not that easy to cancel that without player and Arsenal agreement. That said, he is versatile and could assist in midfield - given Sangare at Afcon & Yates out for ??? (heard 8 weeks, but nothing concrete & hamstring injuries are so difficult to predict).

Gunn was only on the bench out of necessity, he will be gone in January - again, heard that Wayne Hennessy (part of coaching staff, but only 38) could well be given an emergency 6 month contract - assuming Sels & Victor are fit & stay fit.

Boly will be allowed to leave, he wants game time & won't get it here.

Rumours we have a decent offer for Taiwo too, so another I'd let him leave.

I can't see us spending much in January, but we may look to plug a few gaps & Cuiabano is supposed to be coming here to meet Dyche & Co.

I just want to make sure we keep the squad together and build on the momentum, because in the summer we are certain to see some big offers come in for some of our players!
Apparently, we are preparing an offer for Josh Mulligan, who has a January release clause in his contract.

We face stiff opposition as there are other PL Clubs and a few from Germany sniffing round him as well.

He has similar traits in his game to Anderson, albeit playing at a much lower level.

Mulligan on long contract but has an affordable release clause. Has had some real good games recently.

Fulham and Brighton have both checked on Danilo’s situation at Botafogo, as Premier League interest in the midfielder refuses to go away

That's a huge step up. Hibs to the Premier League for a 23 year old

Can’t see us selling any 1st team members in NY outside of Kali and TA. If both, need one replacement as third striker. Otherwise nothing.

Summer is different. Clubs will be sniffing around Murillo, Anderson, possibly MGW.

The clubs that can afford MGW all have a similar player or do not require an MGW. Think he will stay which asks question of McAtee.

Murillo and Anderson will be in demand both here and across Europe. Unwise to sell both in same year but money talks. Potentially have a Murillo replacement in Cunha and/or Bindon. Both need to go on loan to test themselves and gain experience.

We have no ready replacement for Anderson, thus Mulligan seems a viable option test.

Garner- we should be speaking to Garner given his contract situation

By all means take a punt on the Scot but it would be like plucking a player out of Bristol Rovers in League One

It is, but it was a huge step up for Anderson at the time.

All the right Clubs are being mentioned as having an interest in him
Anderson had a season or two as an occasional player being bedded into Newcastle after being at Bristol Rovers though.

He was also described as being a "cheat code player" at Rovers, although that was L2.

This guy is the almost exactly the same age as Anderson but at least 2 years behind in terms of development?

A gamble yes but a cheap gamble. Has added value.

I was thinking the same about McAtee, as today I cannot see who would want to sign MGW.

As for replacing Anderson, I read this morning that we are unlikely to activate Luizs obligation clause, but that can all change with a run of form and being injury free.

Replacing Anderson and Murillo will be impossible. A punt on Hayden Hackney, Garner, some new Brazilian targets no doubt?

I mentioned last week that Taiwo, Boly, Gunn could go and it seems will be likely to go.

We just need a LB this window on loan or loan with Obligation if we can

I’d keep Kali personally.

T’s injury record / goal scoring form is such that I would let him go if there were takers.

Let Boly, Gunn leave. Send back Zinchenko.

Loan Cunha if he’s not going to play. Same goes for Cuiabano. He was the least fancied of the Brazilians by the media so if he’s likely to get minutes, great. But if not, send him somewhere he’ll play.

Luxury ins for me would be an upgrade at fullback cover and an upgrade for Morato at CB. But not easy in Jan and would like to mainly see us working with what we have…

I'd keep Cunha and Cuibano, but get your point. Cunha will be added to the EL squad and could see minutes there, and for sure v Wrexham. I think a CB upgrade will wait until summer now. Are we getting Binden back in Jan also?

Let Gunn leave, even though our 34 year-old first pick has a groin injury (notriously difficult to get right), his back-up is less than proven, gunn himself is an international goalie...and the back-up back-up kid has zero experience and probably needs his Botty wiped.

Rightio!

I really don't understand why folks are so keen to get rid of players that are clearly part of the team/squad, and on the surface are not agitating for moves and, apparently, their sole purpose being a capable reserve (who ought to hold their own for a game or two)

Baffling, especially for someone like Big Willy who is seen as the daddy of the group, great personality, leader and comfortable with his role.

Truly baffling...

Boly and Gunn will 100% be off as they want games in the lead up to the WC. And they should be allowed to leave also
