Janssen would never have been here..

if the club had just loaned back striker moussa dembele to fulham when we were on the brink of signing him from fulham for 6m. Now he is being linked to big money moves to a couple of big clubs in europe.

All we had to do was wait 6 months lol. Janssen is getting the wimmer treatment now so may as well cash in on both.

Busy busy summer coming up. I can see Trippier, Davies, Wimmer, Janssen, Sissoko all being sold.

Trippier is good but how long would he want to be a back up. Its a shame as he is a good player whos forward play is better then walkers imo.

His crossing is superb one of the best in the league. He doesn't have Walker's speed, stamina or athleticism and they are the reasons Walker plays near enough every game.

I can see us needing 2 new wing backs next season.

if he had come to spurs then he would rarley get a game,
hes scoring in a crap leaguebecause hes playing

Sorry, that's not completely true. We met with his agent and him twice, he choose Celtic as he was guaranteed a starting place, something we would Not do, Brendon did.

He made a career decision, not a short term money one.

We were offering him twice what he is earning now.

He made a very smart move, but it could just have easily been a big step backwards.

Didnt we have a bid accepted for him in jan for 6m but wouldnt loan him back so pulled the plug?

In the summer he was a free agent so he actually had a say where he would go. He chose first team football over money.

Pretty sure we agreed a transfer fee, but wouldn't loan him back for the reminder of the season so Fulham pulled the plug.

Sounds like we wanted him again in the summer but Celtic had already done the ground work and guaranteed him first team football.

We agreed a fee with the club, we agreed personal terms with the player - it really had little to do with loaning him back, the club simply wanted and needed the money.

As you know, I've known Brendon long enough to know that he tells it as it is and he really did a very convincing job of convincing the lad that they were the right development step - that, and the fact that when he is sold on he stands to make a huge sum, far bigger than the 'normal' cut.

Brendon met him in London for 3 hours and convinced him that he could develop him into a special player - and so far, he has.

His agent and he gambled on his faith in himself and look like they've won.

fair play to him, but the only thing we can get blamed for is not trying to close the deal by guaranteeing him a starting place.

So what would happen if Janssen played for Celtic? My guess is exactly the same as what is happening with Dembele....goals, goals, goals. Nobody even doubts that Dembele would have struggled at Spurs and just assume that he would have been the missing link in our squad. We will of course never know, but it will be interesting to see how Dembele copes in a more competitive league when he finally gets the chance. You can only score against the opposition that is put in front of you and Celtic are 24 points ahead of 2nd place Aberdeen after 25 games.

Good point.

Not really, dembele has skill, a bit of pace and can get in to goal scoring position s in the box and make good runs and would have cost a bargain 6m and imo would have been like alli and dier and would have made an impact for such a small transfer fee,

Janssen on the other hand can't make good runs has no pace or skill. In all the games he played he has looked dreadful except banging in a penalty. 17m down the drain.

The thing is Janssen may well have been banging them in all season up at Celtic, it's equally as poor or worse than the Dutch league.

That is a good point and just because Dembele has a bit of pace and skill still doesn't guarantee him to be a success. Personally I'd have liked us to get him and still would but as above just because he's scored some goals for Celtic doesn't mean much. I'm sure I'd get into double figures playing as a striker for Celtic.

Can't believe they are demanding so much for him now.

Janssen would almost certainly have had just as many if not more if he'd joined Celtic, it's of a much overall lower standard than the Eredivisie.

Dembele has some great attributes, but success at this stage of his career in the PL/Spain/Italy/Germany is no foregone conclusion.

Dembele has also done it in a tougher league in the Championship.

Saying that, I'm struggling to think of the last striker to come down from Scotland and do well - Viduka?

Hooper,Boyd,McDonald all scored shit loads and failed in England - not saying that has any relivence on Dembele!
