I have nothing but sympathy for the guy but this most reoccurrence surely indicates that this is a chronic problem which is likely to plague the remainder of his career.
Football is an unforgiving world and the fixtures just keep coming - it is impossible to wrap a defender in cotton wool. Forwards can adjust their runs, protect an injury, not really make a serious challenge but this is impossible for a defender whose work is so reactive and constant rotation to protect an injured player doesn't stack up in the long term. Especially when he is the captain.
Totally on board with fifth's assessment of what VK has done for the club - he has lead the team through a transformational period in it's history and has been a fine ambassador for the owners. I would love to see him stay and continue to do so for a few years yet but this most recent blow must throw up some serious questions as to whether that is viable.
The disruption that his string of repeated absences has caused to the defence has, IMO, been a particular reason for the teams' overall inconsistency.
His time may well indeed be up (& secretly I think he may fear this also - his despair on Tuesday evening when he sat down on the pitch was palpable).
Desperate shame for him and the club.
