It's the Kompany you keep, or is it?

Press reports suggest this morning that Pep has instructed Txiki to put captain and club legend Vincent Kompany up for sale.

What say you? Good idea or bad idea?

Given his injuries this season he's about as much use to us as a chocolate fireguard.

I love VK, and he's done some fantastic things for this club, most notably his goal in the derby when we went on to win the title for the first time in over 3 decades.

But there is no room for sentiment in football, and the injuries are far too frequent now to suggest that he'll ever truly get over them.

Sell him now before anyone realises his career is as good as over.

Sorry.

I have nothing but sympathy for the guy but this most reoccurrence surely indicates that this is a chronic problem which is likely to plague the remainder of his career.

Football is an unforgiving world and the fixtures just keep coming - it is impossible to wrap a defender in cotton wool. Forwards can adjust their runs, protect an injury, not really make a serious challenge but this is impossible for a defender whose work is so reactive and constant rotation to protect an injured player doesn't stack up in the long term. Especially when he is the captain.

Totally on board with fifth's assessment of what VK has done for the club - he has lead the team through a transformational period in it's history and has been a fine ambassador for the owners. I would love to see him stay and continue to do so for a few years yet but this most recent blow must throw up some serious questions as to whether that is viable.

The disruption that his string of repeated absences has caused to the defence has, IMO, been a particular reason for the teams' overall inconsistency.

His time may well indeed be up (& secretly I think he may fear this also - his despair on Tuesday evening when he sat down on the pitch was palpable).

Desperate shame for him and the club.

If Vinnie could overcome this injury problem , then I would keep him.

I cannot see anyone taking him on board knowing that he may be sidelined for weeks.

I would like to hear the prognosis for this current recurrence, will surgery cure the problem and he is such an immense figure on the field and even off it,even when out he can be seen there at matches to give the players his support.

He has been our best ever Captain and if his injury is incurable, then he will have to consider retirement and we could find him a place here at City.

In regard to the speculation that Pep wants him placed on the transfer list is complete mystic Meg stuff and I am sure he is 99% concentrating on Bayern until his contract ends.

A couple of weeks ago we were applauding MP for his integrity over playing Caballero in goal.

Now, following his latest injury we are treating VK4 like a greyhound or racehorse that is no longer useful - try and get whatever money we can before the football world cottons on to his injury record.

How about a little faith in VK4 - agreed it does't look good for the immediate future but to suggest quickly getting rid of him for whatever we can get just in case it slows down the liddle citeh juggernaut does us as fans, with our loyalty after what the club has been through before we were in a position to start buying trophies, little credit.

We spent £6m on him in 2008. I remember questioning why we had to spend that much on a central defender when we had Richard Dunne and Micah Richards, but I suppose it's worked out for us.

With that said, I think we need to see how he does through the Euros. If he can make it through the summer uninjured, he remains the captain and stalwart on defense. If he doesn't make it, then perhaps it's time to move on.

"If Vinnie could overcome this injury problem , then I would keep him"

As would i but i fear he is turning into another M.Richards and the problem is not going to go away.

My heart says keep him, he's a lion and a leader. My head says he's too injury-prone now and he'll be 30 next month.

Really difficult, this one.

IF it can be sorted, keep him. But, as Fifth says, there is no sentiment in football, and I fear the worst as well.

Update from Pellegrini: -

“Talking with the doctor, I think that Vincent has an injury in the other calf, not the same one as last time,” Pellegrini revealed.

“We’ll see in the way he’ll improve – maybe one month he can be ready. I think he could play again this season.

“It’s a new injury in the other calf. It’s high behind the knee, similar to the one that Kolarov had a month ago and he took three weeks to a month to recover so we’ll see."
