Israel/Palestine/Gaza/Hamas.... for idiots.

One Bloody Number
Can someone please explain to me what the hell is going on as I don't get it. I'm always pretty ignorant to stuff going on half way across the world I've got to admit. Not proud of it, so wanna try and learn a bit.

Who are the goodies?

Who are the baddies?

Who should I be cheering on?

Thanks.

They are all idiots. Unfortunately for the Palestinians they are over-matched idiots where as the Israelis are vindictive and ruthless idiots.

I hope that helps.

Land and religion.

One murders some innocent people by bombing, the other reciprocate and kill more innocent people.

I think that's what confuses me. The fact they all seem as bad as each other.

From the glimpses I'd heard in the press before I assumed Palestine were the fuckers, with Hamas being the main protagonists.

However having watched C4 news yesterday the news reporter was grilling an Israeli about all the innocent kids they were murdering, and all the settlements they have in Palestine territory, so it sounds like Israel are the aggressors, but then they just claim to be defending themselves.

So it's not just a black and white case then, it's more like 2 sides, neither willing to lose face, but both being as bad as each other.

Who are the west supporting (arming)? I guess Israel? But will this stop if they are needlessly murdering civilians?

This isn't a bad one either

It's so complicated, Deano. Hamas are in a battle within Palestine with Fatah, for control, so they are trying to show how strong they are.

Egypt has had an influence, closing the one access point to Gaza that was open since the Muslim Brotherhood was overthrown. The US arm Israel, but support Saudi Arabia, who are against Israel.

The bottom line is that it's the usual stupid idiocy that's causing the current crisis.

The big problem, as I see it, is that the Palestinian people were stupid enough to elect Hamas to government. Up to this point the people could distance themselves from the actions of a terrorist organisation, being nothing more than innocent victims of circumstance however, when they elected them to government the effectively said that this is the future they want. Seriously, they were much better off with the old PLO, no matter how embroiled in strife they were, they ceased official hostilities when they gained political legitimacy in 1993, Hamas have not done so and have therefore never been recognised internationally and as such continue to bring the rain down on their people. Not that this excuses Israel in any way shape or form but when you are first stuck in a cave with an angry bear the last thing you should do is start poking it with a stick.

They are fighting over "the promised land" - Jews believe its theirs, Muslims believe its theirs. The area is very holy given to the people by God. The BBC web site just mentions after WW2 but it stretches much further back in time.

In Judaism the area is as holy, as what Mecca is to Muslims and over time the Jews of Israel have been pushing out the Muslims - thus causing them to retaliate. There are stories where by Jews will force Muslims from their home and then move in a Jewish family(like a plantation).

Plantations are usually messy. It is over 400 years since the Plantation of Ulster and that caused a problem or two. However, the descendants of the Ulster planters are not going anywhere. Likewise, the Jews are in Israel for the long term. The two state solution imposed nearly 100 years ago in Ireland has not been a roaring success either. I am hugely pessimistic about this whole situation. As usual, the ordinary people of the region pay the price for the intransigence of extremists.

Yeah but I bet you had to look up the word "intransigence" Clive :5: lol

The descendants of the Ulster planters wont go anywhere because it is now their country, born and bred. You see Republicans say things like "go home Brits" etc but they are already at home. Where are they expected to move to? They are born and bred in NI which is part of Britain. - They are not, Irish, English, Scottish or Welsh, so when the Republicans try and force them to leave their homes & their birth rights, of course they will stand up to it.

The best way forward is to invite Ireland to re-join the UK but as a main power house/player. Which at 1st thought wont go down too well but with a proper understanding put to the people, it could work. Dublin and London as major cities in a Union globally could easily outperform the EU. Northern Europe has everything Gas, Oil etc we should join together and then split from the EU.
