Israel/ Iran

What the he'll is going on here, are we heading towards WW3. Waking up this morning to the news of the Israeli strikes against Irans nuclear facilities and personnel are frightening especially when you think of the repercussions from Iran & the instability in that area. The news coming out that they think there's more strikes to come from the Israelis doesn't bode well....

Seems to be an example of a text book military operation so far Jock. Air defence systems have been dealt with, military high command taken out by Mossad creating confusion and panic, the already non existent air force has been sorted and their ballistic missile sites being dealt with via the ingenuity of Mossad. Clear all that out there isn’t much resistance left and Iran is effectively at the mercy of the Israeli air force to then pick off what nuclear or military sites they want. I guess this is what happens when your stated aim is to destroy a country and are trying to build nukes to do so. World will be a safer place if Iran doesn’t have them so I support them in their actions.

Shows what can be done with a well equipped, well trained and determined military. They put 200 aircraft up, we can barely equip half a carrier with them. We can’t even put the other to sea due to lack of personnel and support ships. If Trump really did pull the US from NATO there is no question we’d be screwed up against a foe such as Russia.

I'm not doubting the IDF's capabilities, it's just the thought of one misplaced missile could hit a nuclear facility then we're into a different ball game. Yes the IDF do their homework, tend to be thorough & if everything that's been reported about these strikes is true then it's been a success for them but you only need one mistake & we could all be dragged in.

I understand they are avoiding nuclear power plants, but I understand your point. Iran’s tentacles seem to be long so Israeli targets in the UK would be plausible, even though we’ve played no active part. Our security services have already raised this as a concern, though I doubt Starmer would do a thing if they did so we shouldn’t be dragged in.

I suppose we should ask the question ... why would we consider Russia to be a foe when Trump's US seems to be very pally towards Putain and his regime?

Yes, yes, I know the answer is obvious, but it seems that some very strange things are happening -mainly in the US- at the moment.

Strange world indeed....u don't know what Trump might/ might not do, who he likes, who he doesn't like....top that with the attacks on Iran & the uncertainty of Russia/ Ukraine, it's certainly a strange & unpredictable world.

Times reporting that Israel and the US refused to share military intelligence about the airstrikes with Britain as they no longer deem us as reliable international partners. Let that sink in. That’s what happens when you pontificate and virtue signal about a close ally. Apparently Lammy and Starmer nigh on shit the bed when they were woken in the dead of the night. Perhaps it was more Israel insistence, but it was as big a diplomatic fuck you as you can get.

If that's true MiW, it's a huge own goal by our lot in charge.....mind you if I was them & had seen Lammy in action, I'd also tell him bugger all. Sad stayed of affairs we're in eh....

Times I guess is as reputable as you can get. I must admit I’d be reluctant to share anything confidential with him as he believes a man grow cervix so is clearly an idiot. Political embarrassment aside, it’s a big deal as the UK were less prepared to protect embassy staff etc in Tehran. The impact is greatest on the defence and security services staff who are probably trying to mend relations with their counterparts when they didn’t break them. Seems days after the event we are now moving aircraft and other personnel to the region. Going forward I suspect there will be less inflammatory words and actions towards allies from these two.

So many conflicting issues here:

- as far as "reliable international partners"goes, I think it's hard to beat the Trump/Hegseth team AS THE OPPOSITE OF THAT at the moment.
- as much as Israel may well need support in a potential battle with Iran, they should still absolutely be called out for the atrocities in Gaza.

Some things are true regardless of how things are framed.

EDITED !

To reflect on you talking down our military (capabilities).
You blithely ignore the impact of your previous hero.

Not entirely sure to who you are referring to here. If you mean Boris (hardly my hero) then defence expenditure plummeted long before he took office.

Since the wall fell both Labour and Conservative governments are guilty of neglecting this area of business. The current lying mob are trying to pull the wool over our eyes with creative accounting to claim they are meeting a 2.5% target - no doubt taking inspiration from Osbourne who did similar. However at this period of time the threat posed by Putin is real and expenditure needs increasing way beyond the current level, particularly given the uncertainty of the US continued participation in NATO. On this point Trump has a point, they contribute 70% of the budget so other members need to step up to the plate financially if they want that comfort blanket and deterrent to continue.

they should still absolutely be called out for the atrocities in Gaza..... absolutely 100% , yes the October massacre was totally despicable & they had every right to defend themselves & extract revenge but for a good while now it has been senseless and atrocious but so many few governments calling them out on this.
