Is Yaya holding us back ?

Only just seen the Bournemouth game , and its given me food for thought.

There was more fluidity , pace , and dare I say smiles amongst the players without Yaya playing.

This led me to thinking about other games he has missed, and from memory , the same situation has occurred before.

It's as if the other players no longer have confidence in him, and the other players own games . DS in particular, covering for Yaya's weaknesses.

Silva had more room to operate in thanks to Kevin and between them and the two Ferns Yaya was not missed.
They all seemed to enjoy themselves but then the team played better than they have done for ages.
Certainly made me smile more than I've done for a while.

Good question seac, don't think there's a right or wrong answer either.

He's missed five league games this season, we've been soundly beaten by both Liverpool and Stoke in two of those, we had that abysmal 0-0 against Norwich a couple of weeks back where we hardly registered a chance and we've beaten Newcastle at home and of course Saturday's win.

I was at the Palace home game in January which Yaya didn't start, we were 2 up at ht in that game but never looked in control, we were leading by virtue of a woeful goalkeeping error and a massively deflected shot, other than that we hardly created, that was until the big man came on and brought an element of control and class to the team, he start spraying passes around feeding our attacking players and all of a sudden we started creating chance after chance.

I think part of the Yaya conundrum is Silva, I'm just not sure that playing them both together works anymore, they've both lost half a yard which can see us struggle against well drilled, energetic sides.

I actually thought Manuel had cracked it when he put Dinho on the right, the balance in the side just seemed right, it allowed Yaya and Silva do their thing without leaving us overexposed through the middle, the performances away at Kiev and in the cup final with this system were up there with our best this season ( not hard I know ). Manuel then goes and scraps it as soon as Navas is fit again.

At times Yaya seems to me to be both the problem and the solution. There's a reason why that director from PSG said that they'll fear Yaya.

I'll go along with that.

Some really good points and a good question Seac.

My own view is that when we play with two attackers, Yaya plays better because he can use the space wisely.

When we play five across the box he appears cramped and slows down play and would not have fitted in yesterday as we were rampant fully of pace, pressing, stealing and scoring.

I love the big guy, but he is out of sorts at the moment, but a moment of genius from him can win us games as we have seen on numerous occasions, but he needs that freedom of movement in the middle.

Yaya Toure will depart Manchester City this summer, his agent has said, as the club have failed on their promise to offer the midfielder a new contract.http://www.espn.co.uk/football/soccer-transfers/story/2843591/yaya-toure-to-leave-man-city-at-end-of-the-season-agent

Despite starting this thread , I think Yaya has a role to play at City , if the management can shut his agent up.

Pep played him as a central defender at Barca, probably before he was ready for it, but now as he realises he can no longer charge as he used to, can you imagine a central defence of Yaya and a fit VK playing out from the back ?

Two good full backs ( not ruling out the incumbents) , and our midfield , with SA and KDB , DS as a front three , makes me drool .

If Yaya goes this season i will say thanks for what he has done for us but for me those things are becoming a distant memory and i don't think he now adds anything.

I just can't see any Club paying the wages he is on, but time to move on IO feel and as CT say thank you, but not sure if he will ever be loved by the City fans as much as the modern heroes David Silva and Sergio Aguero and a few others

The bollox his agent comes out with is just him doing his job. He's come out with the same shit every year yaya has been here, and guess what? He's still here. Doesn't impact on what he does on the field which on the whole has been fantastic and has given me some of my best memories of this wonderful club. If he goes, I'll remember the good bits and wish him well :001:

No doubt we will pick up some of is wages for the final year of his contact with us when he goes. We appear to be specialists at this. At his age Pep will not want him because he needs energy in the engine room.

We were specialists in the past as we needed to get players off the books for FFP purposes. I don't see that happening going forward

Regardless of next season, I hope Yaya is fit for next week ( As well as VK).

It is a big night for the Blues , and Yaya playing in the Dynamo formation with Fernandinho out right ,and Fernando staying anchored in front of the back four, could secure our progression.

With that formation , it is not beyond the bounds of possibility that we could go all the way , no matter who we draw.

Agree with all of that seac. Pellegrini really annoyed me when he ditched that setup when Navas was fit again.

Agent Yaya is leaving this summer defo
Agent issues ultimatum
Agent Yaya will buy out contract.

Buzz me thinks the agent can't get anyone to pay the wages, and really wants his aged client to get a new contract.

He'd be doing us a favour by buying out his contract. Any transfer fee we receive should he be sold this summer would likely be used to pay off his salary for the remaining 12 months of his contract so we'd be in better off if he did buy it out. He'd also be able to negotiate with who he likes, everyone's a winner.
