Is this a general problem across the PL

Hard to judge. It's a frustrating article as.it doesn't seem to indicate the metrics they've used to freeze accounts.

"At Manchester United, for example, fans can have their season ticket revoked if they do not attend or forward their ticket to approved friends and family members for at least 16 out of 19 Premier League fixtures."

If this is the reason, then I don't see any problems with the decision. But are there really thousands of United season ticket holders doing that?

This story seems to do the rounds every couple of seasons when Utd do a cull of repeat offenders.

I could be wrong, but I do not believe that the club (unless it's a serious offence ) ban people first time

They would give them a warning, then suspend for a few games then ban.
 
I’ve never had a Season Ticket , so don’t know any protocols,

I was wondering if this is a general concession throughout the league( that ticket holders can give their tickets to friends and family) , for 90% of the season .

At manure , it seems they have sold the tickets , stashed the money , then decided to freeze the use of those tickets and hope that ticket holders gjve them the evidence they think they need for wrongdoing that may or may not hapiened in the future .

If things have happened in the past , then it’s too late now , they should never have sold those tickets to those individuals .

Seems they have forgotten the maxim of being innocent until proved guilty , but they want the individuals to prove their innocence.

Massive cock up in my book .

So , does this happen in other clubs .

Or are they run properly elsewhere ?

Their season ticket usage rules haven't changed in some time and seem entirely fair to me:

"We can confirm that our seat usage policy will remain unchanged for the 2026/27 season. This means Season Ticket holders will therefore continue to need to attend the match, forward, list for resale or donate the cost of their seat through our official channels for at least 16 out of 19 Premier League matches.

This decision follows constructive discussions with fan representatives on the Fans’ Advisory Board and wider supporter groups. We understand the challenges supporters face – particularly with our matches’ dates and timings being rearranged after selection for broadcast – and we recognise the importance of a policy that is both fair and flexible.

We are encouraged that the vast majority of Season Ticket holders are on course to meet their usage threshold this season, and Old Trafford and the team continue to benefit from a strong attendance and a vibrant atmosphere with very few empty seats.

We thank our Season Ticket holders for their loyal support.

We know our Season Ticket holders value the flexibility and choice we provide through our resale and forwarding options and we will continue to offer these with no increase to current charges for supporters. As a reminder, fans are not charged unless a ticket is listed for resale within two weeks of the fixture.

We are proud to retain the option of donating the cost of tickets to the foundation.

Since this was introduced, £2million has been raised for our Foundation, helping young people in our local community feel safe, happy and empowered to fulfil their ambitions. We thank our fans for their generous donations.

We can confirm that all our current concessions for general admission season tickets will remain in place. This means that the following will be the lowest concessionary prices in each category next season:

Under 16s = £12 (family area)

16-17-year-olds = £17

18-20-year-olds = £25.50

Over 66-year-olds = £25.50

So where are our cheapest seats then ? ... all I see is a stadium map and green little boxes .. many of which change in price from expensive to super expensive depending on section and view. My senior Everton ticket cost me £52.50 and my 26 yr son £70 .. for seats next to Zeus and his wife. That will be my quota for the season plus my 3 Premium seats at the Lane Women team games which are usually £150 all in .. bar the travel costs (fuel train refreshments etc) and car parking which is about £70-£90 each visit.

I managed to get 2 seats together for the first time since years - guess the Korean tourist board aint taking up their quota anymore neither
