Is the universe a Hologram?

Seen this on Sky news today: thought it would make a talking point, whatever your beliefs or non beliefs are. So could we be a mass hologram! Red Dwarf move over, we are the real hologram :10:

If you are open minded spiritually or whatever you choose to call it, it can sit comfortably with anyone, I think, of faith or non faith is my perception.

After all we started somehow, from something taking that back as far as you want, there is still no full answer, nor do I believe we will ever get 1 or are meant too. If we understood everything then I think we would cease to exist as there would be no point.

Whilst reading this I thought of the film The Trueman Show and how that was based on a creator running the show. There are many films/books etc. that's deeper meanings when explored are covering possible scenario's for our beginnings.

Here is the link etc. anyway:

The universe could be a 'vast and complex hologram', scientists say
Researchers investigating the Big Bang's "afterglow" say evidence of a holographic universe matches other theories in strength.

........................................................................................................

The universe could turn out to be a "vast and complex hologram", meaning that life in 3D is an illusion, astrophysicists have said.

Researchers from the University of Southampton, working with colleagues from Canada and Italy, say they have found substantial evidence of a holographic universe - an idea first suggested in the 1990s.

They reached their conclusion after investigating irregularities in the cosmic microwave background - otherwise known as the "afterglow" of the Big Bang.

Evidence for the theory matches more traditional explanations in strength, they have said.

Thus, what we think of as our 3D world may be an illusion.

I understand string theory and the double slit experiment but this one sounds all wrong to me. I believe that the universe is an illusion but since we are trapped inside it, it's irrelevant that it's not 'real' in the way we perceive it to be.

As BB puts it, it's irrelevant. Descartes - I think therefore I am

Surley we would understand more if we all wore 3d glasses. I believe in other dimensions so the whole reality is unknown but the 3d part we experience is still real imo.

Surley we would understand more if we all wore 3d glasses. I believe in other dimensions so the whole reality is unknown but the 3d part we experience is still real imo.

I don't think we will ever understand the full reality of why, how etc. in this lifetime and maybe others. If we did there would be no point. We would cease to exist I believe. What would be the point of knowing it all?

There would be nothing to strive for? Nothing new to learn? We would know the answers before we got there!

Yes I believe in other unseen dimensions too? Pagans talk of the 7 dimensions. Christianity talks about ''In my Fathers house there are many mansions'' and so on. Same thing, just different ways of putting it

I think we can connect with something powerful when we meditate or even take certain drugs. However I believe we don't truly experience the other dimensions until we die.

Yes I agree regarding meditation or mindfulness as they like to call it today (I upset an holistic practitioner of mindfulness when she explained what it was, cos I said oh that's the secular name for meditation then? she agreed but didn't look amused)

As for the connecting through meditation or drugs: 1 way is healthy, the other way isn't: I realise the unhealthy way, meaning drugs, to be clear, will be argued by some.

However anything that is drug induced is not natural in the same sense as meditation/mindfulness

I think we can connect in and at times for those open to it experience the dimensions catching each other (re the unseen and unexplained) as the dimensions I have read are not far apart.

It won't all be clear in this life time for sure

I think science has now proved that there are different dimensions. I'm sure Heathfield will clarify this.
Ive only just started looking into this and due to your post I had a look at this video clip to understand it more. Regarding the drugs your probably right but I read about many people who had incredible experiences using Ayahuasca.
It's a shame I can't send you my spirit guide hypnotherapy recording. I've only used it a few times and had some quite powerful results.

As Heath doesn't believe in life after death (Unless I have missed something) I doubt he will confirm about the different dimensions. At least in the way we mean it

I await your response Heath, if your reading?

Happy to chip in. I'm not quite sure why the life after death element is relevant here, but Physics currently accepts we may be in a Multiverse.

It is a particular interpretation of quantum mechanics, which describes the often counter-intuitive behaviour of energy and matter at small scales.

There isn't proof either way, so it remains a hypothesis for now.

Whilst it may not be a hologram I do think we may be seeing mirror images and refraction affecting matter , particularly dark matter which we literally know fuck all about

Thank you for your impute there Heath.

There was a film bought out many years ago: If anyone can enlighten me on what it was called it would be helpful. Just wandered into my mind for some reason as I read what Heath said.

The film was an interview with a Reverend/Priest, a quantum physicist, a scientist and 1 other whom I can't remember.

I believe the overall ending of the film was that things could be seen in all the arguments however the quantum physicist came out on top

Does anyone remember the film I am on about? My close friend told me about it. I vaguely remember watching it, or at least part of it.

I am always reminded in these conversations of the words from the song, by Johnny Cash, Silhill that ''there are more questions than answers and the more I find out the less I know''

I'm not sure of the film kefkat.

Ghosts and spirits are surely in another dimension. Even near death experiences are very odd occurences. Once I fell asleep with a candle on and it started burning the lead of my radio that was on. I often listened to talk sport late at night when it wasn't just sport with James Whale etc. Something banged my pillow really hard that made me jump and woke me up. I then noticed the near fire and sorted it out. I'm convinced a guardian angel or someone similar woke me up.
I also meditate when I'm stressed and need answers. I'm not sure if I'm talking to God or just my higher self but It always gives me the answers without the ego or any other daft insecurities that I've picked up in my life. That's why it makes sense to me that your higher self/intelligent part of your brain is God.
Also I think consciousness is the next step in our evolution but we're being led away from that because we're more use to the elite when were being told what to think and believe.
My guess it's something to do with vibrations or a bit like a radio signal. Unless you turn the knob you won't tune into another station. Hardly scientific I know but I'm not a scientist but neither is the Dali lama.
I'm not particularly religious either but I do think there is a link with praying. All religions do it and talk to God or something. We close our eyes and talk in our minds. It's very similar to meditation.

Anyway I'm off to bed now so piece and love to everyone in the universe.

Actually I didn't sleep and started watching this about the law of attraction. It's a really good watch and it makes so much sense.

I will have a look at it a bit later Sasquatch as I am out tonight and must get our tea.

For me God is just a word: people can call it what they want. Though I am Christian, I am a very unconventional Christian in how and what I believe. Also the fact I speak out about it.

I believe God is being in tune with the universe, which can come through prayer as a word/affirmation, meditation/mindfulness. They all add up to the same thing. Just 1 is classed as of faith. The other is classed as secular.

God for me is pure love, the umbilical cord of the universe, the unseen. Just become my faith comes through the route of Christianity doesn't mean I dont think other ways don't have something to offer and that I can learn from them.

For me not to observe and take on board other thinking patterns, ways etc would be like refusing to smell anything but roses in the garden when there are other beautiful flowers too in there.

Some incorrect science that LOA is based on.

a) Electrons have positive charges.
b) In physics “Like always attracts like.” [magnets?]
c) Thinking burns up brain matter.
d) Only ether (not air) conducts light and thought.
e) Ether connects all minds together. When 2 or more minds come close together, “mind stuff” mixes, and creates a third, “master mind.”
f) Higher altitudes have more oxygen, better air for breathing.
g) Vibrating sound more quickly turns it into heat, then light, than thought.
h) Thought energy is 40,000 Hz to 4 X 1014 Hz or above 7 x 1014 Hz. In reality brain waves are slow 1 – 100 Hz.

All of these are quoted as proof that LOA works, yet all are false.

I've always had an interest in quantum physics and have read many books, "Quantum Enigma" being a very interesting book, but never felt there was any legs in the LOA theories.

When it was all the rage a few years ago I even read "The Secret" just to see what all the fuss was about, I don't think I finished it because it just didn't make any sense, even in just a common sense kind of way.

Just a bunch of New Age types latching on the mysteries that quantum physics throws up and interpreting it in a way to suit their own beliefs.
