iPhone 4S email problems

Google hasn't been my friend, so I hope someone here can be.

I have two email accounts set up on my iPhone - when I send emails from my default account, replies always go to my gmail account. Why?! It's doing my head in. Someone please help me. :78:

EDIT - just did a test. Emailed my work account from my phone. On my phone it says it was sent from my default account, when I've received the email it says it was sent from my gmail account. :37: :37: :37:

Solution: Blackberry Z-30. BB's are designed for busness.

My wife had the identical problem. She went to one account. Her me.com account. It works because apple overrides everything.

Are you certain that your default account is set to the correct one, if it's set to your gmail account then you ARE actually emailing from your gmail account, not the one you think you are!

Go to mail, contacts. calenders and scroll down until you see 'default account' then it will tell you which one it's set to.

Nope, my default account is my Tiscali address. But when someone responds to my email that I've sent from that account, it sends it to my Gmail account.

It's not every email though. Sometimes it works as it should, others it doesn't. And I have no clue why. The from email address is correct, so I can't work out why it's switching it to my Gmail account.

SG,

the only way that what you describe can happen is if you have set a forwarding rule on your Tiscali email account i.e. you are forwarding your emails from either certain people or email addresses by default.

Sometime in the distant past or even recently you've been playing with your settings in Tiscali - or someone has!

I don't even know how you do that, Ex :10: And no-one else has been near my phone. Would it be set up like that on my phone (I can't see any settings like that on there) or through my actual Tiscali account?

It would have to be at your email relay point i.e. your default account (Tiscali), it's absolutely impossible to happen any other way, because when you reply to any email, it reads the 'header/address info and replies to that and simply doesn't have the smarts to 'guess' at your gmail account..

I think I've solved it. I think it's to do with my out-going server. Obviously I can't connect to my homeserver when out, so it uses the gmail server instead hence why it's going from my gmail account. So I just need to find out my carrier's server, and I should be sorted *fingers crossed*

Delete both your accounts from your phone and set them up from scratch again; but make sure you do have the right path/server settings!

job done.

I have the right paths and settings, I just didn't realise that it only connects to the Tiscali (or Talk Talk as it is now) server when I'm connected to my wifi. I've never noticed it before as if I'm not at home and emailing from my phone, it's usually to my work address and I've never bothered looked at the email address because I know it's from me. So I just need to add the T-Mobile / EE server as the second server as opposed to the gmail one so it goes from that instead. I think? :17:

Right, it really does sound like you haven't set up your service correctly;

so Delete the account settings on the phone .

Then carefully follow the instructions again here:

That should solve it once and for all..

Thanks, Ex. Only just seen this but I got it sorted.

TMobile have got rid of their outgoing server without telling anyone, hence why it flipped to my Gmail account and I didn't understand why. My Tiscali outgoing server wasn't connected correctly (hence why it would only connect to the home wifi and not when I was out), but is now. So problem solved. :35:
