Conflicting reports on the injury suffered by Jesus in the Brasil v Argentina game. Jesus was elbowed in the face by our very own Otters and was stretchered off. Some reports say it is not serious but others say he has a fractured eye socket which is very serious.
I will keep my eyes peeled for news.

Sadly multiple reports are stating that he does seem to have sustained a fracture to his eye socket :013:

The irony of sustaining this is a clash with a club teammate is just .....unbelievable Jeff. I am sure Nicolas Otamendi was mortified at causing this injury to a club teammate :017:

I hope that he makes a speedy recovery. The length of time this will take will depend, of course, on the severity and nature of the injury - there can be numerous consequences from such an injury and I would not at al be surprised to see the young man start the season wearing a protective mask....

Wasn't the first challenge on Jesus either by Otta. Plenty of feeling in this so called friendly. Fern dished a bit out and got plenty in return.

Thought it was great game, both teams played it hard. Hope Jesus comes back better than ever.
I saw it as accidental on the Otters part.

It seems that the injury is not too serious and that there are no concerns over Jesus's fitness for the start of the 2017/18 season

In other news Raheem Sterling provided a wonderful cross for Harry Kane to save England's blushes at Hampden Park yesterday :001:

Joe Hart beaten by two long range free kicks......

:053: I know but I opted to post here rather than start a fresh thread.

Good call, Skoorb, since Mr. T took his chopper to my rolling results thread.

not a mention so far in the papers about the brilliant pinpoint cross, I agree it was a good goal by Kane but it was laid on a plate for him.

I was disappointed with the two goals which easily beat JH1, the first where the wall didn't jump and the second well ......, but i think England got away with one there, as Scotland upped their game for this match but probably wont be able to in the other matches.

Thought it was a so so game, not a lot between the teams in my opinion. JH1 should have saved the first free, but the second was very good. The lesson for England is don't give away silly fouls on the edge of the box. Scotland will always play above themselves at home vs the oldest enemy.

Being careful not to give away those opportunities is a very good point - we had our own issues with that problem when Otamendi and Mangala tended to get sucked in. The former seems to have curbed his enthusiasm or perhaps been coached out of it?

The second free for Scotland was a bit unfortunate - the England player slipped and Griffith took this opportunity to tactically fall over. I don't think he was touched & basically that is cheating. The first one was embarrassing in that Cahill lost the plot and then went down pretending he had been caught in the head. I watched it several times and could see no contact so his actions, intending to deceive the ref and make out it was a 50-50 clash was similarly a pathetic attempt at deception and is cheating. :013:

On Saturday morning a British Lions player, Stewart Hogg, caught an accidental elbow right in the face from a team mate. No histrionics, he went down and would have tried to carry on but for the severity of the blow. What a contrast to some footballers who make such a fuss about the slightest contact (or none at all). Will be watching the new rule on 'deliberate deception ' with interest next season.

Seems some (online) Blues are rounding on Otamendi for his challenge on Jesus, eyes on the ball the whole time, some need to stop being so precious

Oh and Jesus needs to drink some milk, them bones, them bones need calcium.

His bones do seem a bit brittle but this was pure accident - the point of Otamendi's elbow just on the edge of the eye socket and as you say, eyes on the ball the whole time. I am sure Nicolas is mortified that he caused this to a club team mate.

Monaco left back Benjamin Mendy, heavily linked with City, went off injured during the France v England friendly last evening. After a seemingly innocuous challenge from Rahemm Sterling, Mendy immediately appeared to be having a problem with his right knee which was already strapped with tape.

There is no indication what the nature or the extent of his injury was but on this basis alone it would appear to seal his fate as a dead cert signing given our history with players who have joined the club only and been immediately unavailable due to injury.....

Boateng if I recall was injured in some bizarre incident involving an airline food cart; the 'Much Maligned' Martin DeMichelis was injured in his first training session at the club; Ilkay Gundogan was signed whilst still recovering from a dislocated kneecap (this is an advance in our transfer dealings as we clearly have moved to a policy of purchasing pre-injured players rather than buying them and then getting them damaged. On this basis Mendy would appear to fit the bill :026: )

Yes, a dicky knee, for sure a certain signing. :005: :005: :005:

Seems there is good news on the Gabriel Jesus injury - he won't need surgery apparently and will be back in training in three weeks :026:
