Thanks that is quite interesting.

Apparently we had a competitive playing budget of £2.5M last season.

The lowest wages given for 2016/17 are £2.8M (Wimbledon) - who can explain the discrepancy?

Already assumed Scunthorpe had a wealthy owner willing to take a hit but wages as 140% of income can’t last too long without promotion to the Championship Shirley?

The wages quoted in the figures mention that it's for all staff involved with the company- eg Bolton's wage bill includes their hotel staff.

Re the Oldham situation - I have an Oldham supporting mate up north who informs me that they really are deep in the nasty brown stuff this time and could actually fold completely.

The discrepancy is down to expectations based upon the budget.

If the expectations was to simply avoid relegation than the budget could be considered competitive enough but clearly wasn't if the desire was to compete for a play off spot.

Most likely that Scally over estimated how competitive the budget was while the likes of Pennock and JED did the complete opposite.

nonsense, see my post

Thanks Trev I was wondering why no one had responded. Beginning to think I may have been subjected to the ignore option :-(

When you read the Oldham article and look at how they wasted money on wages that is so scary.

The Oldham story is frightening; I have issues with the way Scally does some things but throwing away money on players has never been his thing. The Latics survival in L2 depends on very careful cash management or they'll end up in a worse position than Orient, which was mentioned in the article. For us, Zakuani signing a two year deal is a bright spot not someone on eleven grand a week.

At least we won't have to play one of our bogey teams next season, or ever again if they go pop!

IIRC Scunthorpe had a playing budget over 100% of their income the last few times I’ve seen these end-of-season stats. A bit funny really, bankrolled club making a mockery of these seemingly non-existent fair play caps struggling to get out of this league.
