Ever heard the term "Cold enough to freez the balls off a brass monkey"

The balls would be canon balls and the "monkey" would be the holder made of brass which sat beside the canon with 6 to 8 balls on it. Some monkeys were made so the ball sat in a ring, when it froze the ball would shrink and fall through the holder.

Which, interestingly on the Swedish theme, is what I always fancy doing in IKEA such is my dislike of the place . Although I wouldn’t be fussy on the cupboard colour.
