Ins and Outs 2026/27

Rotherham Advertiser website - interview with AB... decision on the last three trialists will be made in the next 24-48 hours. Still trying to complete the Tom Bradshaw deal. Also aiming to sign another forward, because Tavares is really a wide player/winger.

M comment - we have played most of our pre-season games without a proper forward. No wonder we haven't scored many goals! Need somebody coming in who is already up to speed.

At least we know now that Tavares can play up front in an emergency.

Plenty of clubs looking at Danny Ormerod last season and possibly this season.
Striker, at AFC Fylde, aged 20 ???, under contract until summer 2027 so will cost a fee. Plenty of potential.
Think Lindum mentioned him last season.
Bags of potential and a natural goalscorer. Only 20. Great signing alongside an experienced forward. If Arkwright can remember where he hid his wallet. Dither and he'll be gone. Can play CF or inside right or right in a three.

I don’t mind the Tom Bradshaw signing at all. I’d have preferred the 28 year old version but there we are! We have a couple of forwards who are proven scorers at this level. AB made it clear in yesterday’s interview that he wanted one more forward in addition to Mullin and Bradshaw, and that he wanted an option of younger legs up there. I have to say that with the caveat of the need to keep players fit, I quite like how it’s panning out.

Tizer reports Nombe fee at £600K (plus unstated and hypothetical possible add-ons) and also that AB still does not know if any of the money can be used for recruitment. So earlier reports in that rag and elsewhere that we were holding out for a figure close to what we paid and that a sale was 'crucial' to strengthening the squad were simply misinformation recounted by a gullible media. Add in the 'slight niggles' keeping players out for months and half the influx not actually fit to start and it's yet more evidence that nothing really changes at the club. £600K for Nombe is imo a ludicrous undervaluation; might as well have kept him.

It will work out at £800k. The add on may be appearances, goals scored and if MKD gain promotion this season. The sell on % clause is only paid on the amount MK make if they sell the player.

Another off my list. Harrogate have signed 21 yo Worthing striker Brad Dolaghan (24 goals in 40 games) for an undisclosed fee that I am very reliably informed was £100K. Watch this lad; big money move in 2 or 3 seasons. You heard it here first.

Forgive me if I don't join in the celebrations, Guy. In January we turned down a bid for Nombe from Bolton. The YP stated a figure of £2m but I am reliably informed it was an upfront £800K with add-ons taking it to £1.4m. The feeling then - expressed to me by a SITK who knew Hamshaw well - is that the club anticipated 'considerably more' in a Summer sale.
Who knows but if you feel £6-800K is a 'good deal' for a 15-20 goal forward of Nombe's age and experience I disagree.

His value will have depreciated in the second half of last season - didn't score many goals (although not entirely his fault), picked up injuries easily (probably because we had to play him when not fully fit) . It was a sort-of-ok deal - nothing great. Given that we are useless in transfer negotiations, I was never very optimistic about the likely fee.

Rotherham Advertiser website - saying that we are planning to sign two of the trialists... doesn't specify which! I'm guessing that Alijofree will be one of them.

BBC Radio Sheffield - reported rumours that Phil Smith could be taking over RUFC
