India v England Test Matches 2021

Day Two

Lunch score - India 329 all out (Pant 58 n.o., Moeen Ali 4-128)
Poor start for England though 39-4. Root already out for 6.

Update 1 - England struggling at 103-6 now

Update 2 - England 134 all out. (Ashwin 4-40)
Follow-on avoided (just!), but only Foakes (42 n.o.) was capable of staying at the crease for very long. The Indian bowlers know that the England innings often fall apart once Root is out, and today was another example of that. A good effort from Foakes in the circumstances though.

Update 3 - Close of play : India 2nd innings 54-1

Day Three

Update 1- India 2nd inns now 184-6, already over 350 ahead. Kohli 56 n.o., Ashwin 44 n.o.. Best English bowler - Leach with 3-72 so far

Update 2 - Tea score : India 221 -8 (Kohli 62, Ashwin 68 n.o.) Moeen Ali has taken four wickets now

Perhaps a good job he's playing!

What a difference a crowd makes, eh. Though I'm not sure about the 'segregation', I mean, I know the Indians have big families but that is just ridiculous!

Day Three continued...

India 286 all out (Ashwin 106). Four wickets each for Leach and Moeen Ali

Update 1 : Close of play score - England 53-3
England heading for defeat, unless Root can get about 300 himself!

Day Four

England 2nd innings -all out for 164. Root 33, Moeen Ali 43.
(A.Patel 5-60, Ashwin 3-53)
Predictably, only Root looked capable of occupying a significant amount of time at the crease.
India won by 317 runs to make it 1-1 in the series

Sounds like England are sticking to their original squad rotation plan as far as injuries permit, , so Moeen Ali is now going back home, Bairstow is re-joining the England squad, and other team changes are likely too for the next test match.

I'm wondering when they are travelling back and forth like this if they are having to isolate in a hotel when they get back?

Sam Curran ruled out of rest of test series due to travel restrictions relating to Ahmedabad. Should be ok for one-day games later though.

Next test (3rd in series) is a day-night game. England staged a day-night test match v W. Indies at Edgbaston in 2017. England have also played "away" day-night tests in New Zealand and Australia. Fairly rare though.

Third Test - Day One

England won the toss and opted to bat first. Bairstow, Archer and Anderson returned to the team. Bess was left out. Looks more like a bowling attack for "English conditions".

Update 1 : Lunch - England 81-4. Only Crawley , just out for 53, looked reasonably comfortable. Ducks for Sibley and Bairstow, and Root could only manage 17 runs. The Indian bowlers are well on top, and there's a long England batting "tail" in this game too.

Update 2 : England 112 all out . Usual story - as soon as Root gets out, the rest of the team don't last long. A. Patel 6-38, Ashwin 3-26

Update 3 : Tea/Dinner score - India 5-0

Update 4 : Close of play - India 99-3. (Rohit 57 n.o.). Best England bowler was Leach with 2-27 so far.
Almost impossible for India to lose the four-match series from here.

England seem to have got a lot of seamers in the team.

Looks a nice ground pity the cricket hasn't really lived up to it.

Day Two

Amazing comeback by England, led by Joe Root's bowling!
India 145 all out. Rohit 66.
Root 5-9, Leach 4-54
Lunch

Update 1 - England collapse again and are 62-5. What was Bairstow trying to do, with over three days left in the match schedule ?!?! Must have thought that this was the T20 series!. (Got a pair) :(

Update 2 - Tea/Dinner score : England 2nd inns. 81 all out (A. Patel 5-32, Ashwin 4-48).
India 2nd inns. 11-0

Update 3 - India 2nd inns. 49-0
India won by 10 wickets and go 2-1 up in the series
(Shortest test match since 1935!)

Fourth Test (Last in the series)
Day One

England won the toss and batted first. Bess returned in place of Archer, Lawrence in for Broad (so England playing an extra batsman ). Both openers and Root were soon dismissed. England now 75-3.

Update 1 - Tea score : England 144-5 (Stokes 55) Pope and Lawrence now in

Update 2 - Lawrence was out needlessly attempting to slog, after playing well for his 46 runs, but then the England innings didn't last much longer - all out for 205. Once again the Indian spinners did most of the damage (A. Patel 4-68, Ashwin 3-47)

Update 3 - Close of play: India 24-1. Good bowling from Anderson, trapping Gill lbw for a duck, but overall another good day for India, and it will take a spectacular turnaround by England to prevent India from winning the test series now.
