Independent? You're having a laugh

With City fans still bemused but unsurprised at the variable reporting on transfer activity by Manchester City & the Rags it should not be a shock to see that even some of the more (I use the term advisedly) reputable outlets are not immune from bias either.

The collective response from the majority of the media to Romelu Lukaku's £75m + £15m add on fee was a kind of cowed awe at the financial might and demonstrable ambition of the club the=at finished SIXTH in the league last season. Contrast that response to the collective intake of breath and shocked WTF? that followed Kyle Walker's move to Manchester City for an initial £45m + add ons. You only have to look at the way they were reported to sus out their game. Lukaku's fee was reported as the £75m initial figure, whereas pretty much everywhere you looked regarding Walker's move the total figure including all the add on sums (£54m) was the headline number. The BBC must be shown some credit here (I know, hard to believe) for actually reporting the £45m figure :005: Fair play. For once.

Now we come to today's laugh a minute.

The Independent, trying to fan the dying embers of the Maureen v Guardiola fire have been decidedly twisted in the article on his comments especially when it comes to the comparison of transfer activity.

Highlighting City's spend at £120m with more to follow they describe Maureen's as having "enjoyed a more circumspect window" with only two acquisitions _ Lukaku and Lindelhof.

:039: :039:

Err. Excuse me?

Lindelhof cost £31m & Lukaku £75m = £106m (£121m if the add ons for Lukaku are included.

There is hardly clear blue water between these sums and one might be forgiven for thinking that the reporting was not quite as 'independent' as they would want you to believe :014:

And the follow up is in the same vein......

http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/manchester-united-vs-manchester-city-what-time-when-watch-where-live-stream-video-goals-updates-a7851276.html

1. Although there are three City players in the main shot the focus is clearly on Martial

2. The slideshow is all about how the rags might 'line up this season' (there is no corresponding slideshow for City)

3. Apparently it's "Big game for Pep Guardiola" with "pressure on the manager is already building". WTF?

4. The video of a past match show......Wazza's shinned effort to beat Hart in the 2011 derby. Declared one of the "greatest strikes in Premier League history" :024:

5. Kyle Walker is noted as the player to watch ........but only in the context of City 'failing to sign Bellarin no Dani Alves"

:013:

It's official, the so-called 'Independent' is now a Rag fanzine :017: :017:

Could that be more one sided?
