Imps in Exile

So true. I think this is why football (and possibly other sports) does deserve special consideration with regards to a COVID response. On a purely scientific/health response it's not hard to make an argument to just simply shut it down. But there are wider societal mental health benefits that a carefully controlled and managed football industry brings to the UK.

You wouldn't have said that circa 2011 to 2016. You'd have been begging them to shut it down. ;)

Not going to lie friends: I am new to the Imps. I have been a fan of MLS side Chicago FC for many years (closest team to me in Western Michigan).

My wife and I got genetic tests for Christmas 2 years ago and I found out I have many, many relatives from Lincolnshire. Mainly Lincoln and Spalding. This was a surprise to me because I thought I was mainly Scottish. This lead me to check out the local teams and the Imps spoke to me most....so...here I am.

I am a newbie but I watch every game on iFollow as it is the only way I know! Someday I'll make it to the Bank and I'll buy a drink for any who wants to join.

Edit: my wife makes fun of me because I am a huge fan of an obscure League One team in England. She just doesn't get it.

I like stories like this. Reminds us we're all connected and have more in common than not, whatever our country/culture/background.

Take your wife to Lincoln - it's a beautiful, ancient city. She'll get it then.

Does anybody else remember having to ring Clubcall for the GMVC results as an Exile, rather than waiting for the small print in the paper the next day?
"Welcome to Non- League Club Call". I can still hear that voice!

Quickest source of results in those pre- mobile days when teleprinter and Sports Report ended at Div 4, invaluable that season.

The guy would occasionally do a headline or brief summary, highlight being "police escorted Barry Fry off the pitch during Lincoln's controversial 2-1 win over Barnet"

Welcome aboard the Imp Train MichiganImp:wave:. I grew up in Lincoln but live in LA now. The lower divisions and connections to your local team are a much better place to be than any Premiership bandwagon full of "fans" that will disappear if the team doesn't qualify for a European competition that year.

And when the inevitable happens, and the Imps kick the "Big Six" from the top of the football pyramid, you can rightly say you were there all along.

As for the Mrs, give her time and she will see the light. If not, I am sure there are good divorce lawyers in Michigan ;). Joking of course!

I used to find clubcall very useful for midweek results as a student. Usually I was in a very noisy pub with my finger in one ear chucking coins in the phone on the bar whilst my mates laughed at me. It always took ages to get to the score - guaranteed you had to spend more than 50p and really built up the tension!

Imagine how much piss taking they'd have been had you found us in the lower third of the National League 5 years ago!

I’ll also confess to taking a season’s subscription to the Sports Echo, albeit it arrived a few days the event!

How spoiled we are today! Although COVID has put live attendance of 15-20 matches a season on hold, Social Media and iPlayer help me stay connected and clearly grow the fan base...

Do Lincolnshire people have special genes? Yes we do. I hope you’ve embraced the haslet, plum bread and chine. We might be a weird bunch but your missus is missing out if she doesn’t get onboard

I feel a bit of a fraud compared to the Imps in Oz and the USA. Left Lincs for University in 2003 and have lived around the UK since and have been in London since 2013. Managed to keep a season ticket while I lived in Sheffield and Notts but since moving down here I've only really managed London/SE games and some home games when back visiting family. I don't watch much on iFollow as I'm a curse and we always lose or draw. :ROFLMAO:

My other half is a Spurs fan (or rather her dad is) but my two daughters (4yo and 3 months) both have LCFC kits and they're definitely Imps :dev:
