If you are wondering what happened to Bury...

25/10/21

It is being reported that a bid for the original Bury FC and the Gigg Lane stadium, backed by some BFC fans groups, appears to have been accepted. The legal details are still being finalised, but the club may get revived , with the continued identity, honours, etc, of the original BFC.

Meanwhile AFC Bury are considering moving to a new ground, possibly a redeveloped version of Bury athletics stadium. Last Saturday they won 1-0 at Sunderland Ryhope CW in the First Round proper of the FA Vase. They have been drawn at home against Birtley in Round 2.

The ownership of Bury FC and the Gigg Lane stadium by a consortium of fans groups has been approved by the administrator. The new BFC owners are in discussion with the phoenix club AFC Bury regarding the future of football in the town. AFC Bury are currently ten points clear at the top of NWFCL First Division North (Level ten in the "pyramid").

AFC Bury have achieved promotion! They have only lost one league game this season, but still have no ground of their own . Bury FC are out of administration and are still trying to get back into the football pyramid. They both still seem to be some distance away from a Rothetham Town - Thornhill United type merger though.

Update - AFC Bury achieved promotion from their league, as champions, to the NWCFL Premier League (FL Level 9). Ex-Football League Division 2 club Northwich Victoria, are also in that league.

Bury FC has received a big grant from the government re maintenance of Gigg Lane (by some strange coincidence it is in a marginal constituency!), but still has no players, has not played a game for two seasons, and has not been accepted by any league in the football "pyramid" for 2022/23 yet.

Bury (AFC) have started their league season well and have progressed in the FA Cup to the First Qualifying Round having knocked out Hallam, and then Widnes.

Fans are going to vote on a proposed merger with Bury FC and possible return to Gigg Lane for 2023/24 season.

BBC Football website - Bury FC and Bury AFC fans have now voted by a sufficient majority to merge their clubs , andt the re-formed club will play at Gigg Lane next season. (Vote in 2022 failed to agree the merger).

Talksport Radio - just said that Bury will be playing in Level 9 of the "Pyramid", didn't state the exact club name. Think that the merged club want to go back to the "Bury FC" name, but may still need to sort out legal stuff and Football League/FA approval.
