I agree it's a great film, difficult to say whether it's the coolest or the best but it is most definitely a great film and stands the test of time! When you consider it was released just over 50 years ago :eek!:

I'm lucky enough to live with in 30 mins of the only Cinerama (the original format of the film) capable theatre with the deeply curved screen outside the US. I saw the newly struck 50th anniversary 70mm print at the Pictureville a couple of weeks ago. It was mind-blowing.

Funny isn't it? I've always considered it the biggest waste of 149 minutes of my entire life. Which is amazing considering the number of 0-0 draws I've seen.

But asking people how "HAL" gets its name has always been a good conversation ice breaker.
