Help the Herts & Essex Observer help Cyril Banks, a 91-year-old Second World War veteran from Bishop's Stortford who has been tricked by phone fraudsters out of his life savings of £9,000 after receiving a call from a man claiming to be from Scotland Yard.
The man on the other end of the line told Mr Banks his bank account had been targeted by thieves and that he needed to withdraw his money to help catch them.
Cyril is well known in his home town for his efforts in collecting for the Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal. He has also proved in years gone by that age is no barrier by taking part in charity abseils.
Mr Banks, whose wife Vera died in 2007, was in the Royal Navy from February 1943 to August 1946. His tour of duty took him around the world, from the Arctic Circle to the Far East.
As the community newspaper for Bishop's Stortford, the Herts & Essex Observer is rallying its readers to donate to Cyril's cause - give him back his life savings.
Thank you
