The Moroccan-born mayor of Rotterdam has said Muslim immigrants who do not appreciate the way of life in Western civilisations can 'f*** off'.
Ahmed Aboutaleb, who arrived in the Netherlands aged 15, spoke out in the wake of the Charlie Hebdo attack in Paris last week.
Appearing on live television just hours after the shootings, Mayor Aboutaleb said Muslims who 'do not like freedom can pack your bags and leave'.

I agree that you shouldn't move to a country and expect it to change to accommodate you. If I went to Saudi and started drinking and stuff I don't think they would tolerate that very much.

But then there are two sides to everything. All that is certain is the media will feast like a king on all this discord, loving every second of it, as it stirs it up, tells you who the good guys and bad guys are, tells you what to think and feel, and sells a s*** load of papers to the angry, manipulated, divided public.

If Charlie Hebdo was all for freedom of speech while insulting others though, then people who have a different point of view on the attacks are free to voice them too surely.

Just no

Surely free speech is free speech for all. They can't be hypocrites AND take the moral high ground.

If something can't be said then free speech can't be claimed.

Free speech is a myth anyway. We are in an age where less can be said than ever since the hate crime laws. It's just a nice phrase that people use to cover their insults lol.

I am sure Charlie Hebdo would agree with you: Free speech (depending as you say) but murder isn't free speech

I'm not talking about the murderers, I'm talking about people who think they can choose what can and can't be said, while waving a flag for free speech.

Exactly, offense is taken not given. It's a choice, to let someone manipulate you or not.

Got you and yes true. We think we are free yet in many ways we aren't

Totally, freedom is another over used political word, we're as free as our dictators and wallets let us be.

Apart from breathing the only thing we are truly free to do is think, and they even try their hardest to control that.

You're spot on there Freeman. 20 lashes in public, imprisonment, etc etc...... Lovely!

:59: :59: :59: Free to think? The gov through the media pushes the drinking culture, through your taps, mouthwash and toothpastes it pushes fluoride (proven to lower IQ Harvard study) through the Dr's it pushes anti depressants and other mind altering compounds, the scary thing is that people on these things actually believe they are free to think!

Apart from breathing the only thing we are truly free to do is think, and they even try their hardest to control that.

Freedoms and rights are no more or less than the opportunity to take responsibility for our own safety and security within a society. Total freedom only comes with total responsibility. Is that really freedom, knowing that you are at the mercy of anyone that chooses to infringe upon your security, with no police or other state agencies to protect you? Not for me it's not! I, for one, am willing to sacrifice a little freedom to live under the protection that an organised society gives me. The alternative is the Wild West scenario.

The only issue for me is balance, I don't want to live in a totalitarian state. The only true measure of success in achieving this balance is the actual security of the people cross referenced with a relaxed acceptance of conditions, which will vary from place to place and culture to culture. Unfortunately, in much of the west and most certainly in the UK, people's perceptions are severely affected by an over active, poor quality press.
