Hull v Swansea

Hull v Swansea Sat 21 Dec 12:30

Let us hope that this week the management and players focus on tactics and game control, and the head-coach looks at himself in the mirror and keeps criticism of the team in-house, they are only playing to his tactics.

With our wing-backs too far forward Sunderland wingers had a field day and freedom of the wide areas (same as Leeds game), their tenacious midfield controlled the second-half as our passes went astray, we lost possession and wilted under pressure.

Tactics wise we should have brought on full-backs Naughton and Christie to plug the huge gaps on the wings, and the wing-backs for further cover.

The Hull game is a chance to get back on track although we have to remember that these bottom teams are fighting for their survival and will not succumb without a fight.

Hull are having a nightmare season and have won only 3 of their 21 games so far. Their last 10 games have produced zero wins, 3 draws and 7 defeats. Their last home game was a 1-1 draw with 8th place Watford.

Ex-Southampton manager Ruben Selles left Reading on 6 Dec to take over at Hull from Tim Walter who had lasted only six months, so Spanish for German.

Hull had finished seventh under Liam Rosenior last season but owner Acun Ilicali unbelievably decided to sack the former Hull City defender this summer and it went downhill from there.

Yesterday they lost 2-1 at Coventry in Selles second game in charge, Coventry coming from 0-1 down to score two second half goals.

Beware of complacency Swans, lower ranked teams set up to be hard to beat.

A couple of ex-Swans at Hull, albeit they were loanees. Goalkeeper Carl Rushworth (injured so won’t feature) and midfielder Kasey Palmer.
Cyrus Christie was with Hull last season and is now in his second spell with us.

With Vigouroux having a few shaky games for us lately, it’s ironic the way things have turned out for Carl Rushworth this season.
Brighton delayed and delayed a decision on another loan deal for him with the Swans in the summer, we couldn’t wait any longer and went to Burnley for Vigouroux instead.
Rushworth has yet to make a first team appearance for Hull with four games on the bench before an ankle injury in training, sidelining him for 3 months.

A busy Christmas Schedule with 15 points on offer.

16’ Slater misses an open goal, Ryan Giles running rings around Key.
Swans not at the races so far, they look like the bottom side, not Hull.
20’ Swans first corner, Tymon’s cross doesn’t beat the first man.

30’ Vipotnik weak shot straight at goalkeeper
31’ Hull’s Puerta hits the post
33’ Cabango beaten, Pedro scores, Vigouroux beaten at his near post
1-0
35’ Swans haven’t woken up yet, horrendous play, Hull’s complete dominance continues, they almost score again, Vigouroux nervous as a kitten

HT: 1-1
Hull the better side throughout the first-half with 40% possession and should have been at least two goals up. Against the run of play Swans equalise, thanks to Darling.
Swans defence looks shaky every time Hull attack.

59’ pass-back by Grimes almost lets Pedro in
60’ Tymon cross Vipotnik just misses the ball for a certain goal
62’ our full backs just cannot stop the crosses

64’ Eom, Vipotnik off - Ronald, Bianchini on
70’ corner from Grimes, Darling at the far post heads back into the goalmouth and a Cabango header hits the post, should have scored.
Hull still having the better of the game.

74’ Grimes gives the ball away again, brings man down, booked, central free-kick on edge of area, hits the wall.
78’ Hull dominating again
79’ Sub Burstow scores as Cabango stands off him - inept defending
2-1
Longman hits the post for Hull, Swans are a shambles, continually being dispossessed by Hull, who are without a home win since September and without a win in ten games.
87’ Swans without a shot on target second-half.
Hull want it more, Swans players happy to pass it until they lose possession,
today this lot are a shambles, with no fight and no commitment.
92’ Cullen feeble header goes wide.

FT: Hull 2 - Swansea 1.
The most embarrassing display of the season today which follows the Sunderland shambles last week.

Quite where this puts us when we can’t even give the bottom side, who hadn’t won in 13 matches, a competitive game, never mind beat them I don’t know. Hull could have won by more. We need a goalscorer badly and some better defenders too by the look of it. Our tight defence of the first half of the season is presently like a sieve.
