Huddersfield v Swans

Next up on Tuesday night is Huddersfield away. They were relegated from the PL last season after two seasons there, finishing bottom. With just two wins from 22 matches David Wagner was fired in Jan 2019. Another German, Jan Siewert, then took the reins but couldn’t prevent relegation. With 3 straight defeats at the start of this season, Siewert was sacked after just 7 months in charge. He was replaced by Lincoln manager Danny Cowley on 9 Sept.

Last 6 matches:
Swans W2 D2 L2 F6 A8 Pts8
Huddersfield W2 D3 L1 F7 A7 Pts9

Swans away form: PL8 W4 D4 L0 F11 A6
Huddersfield home form: PL9 W2 D3 L4 F9 A11

How about these match facts then:
  • Huddersfield have dropped more points (14) from winning positions than any other Championship side this season.
  • The last time the Swans lost three matches in a row was under Potter in March 2019
  • Huddersfield have taken 9 points from their last five home league games (W2 D3 L0), the same number of points as they did in their previous 25 games at the John Smith’s Stadium (W2 D3 L20).

The Huddersfield v Swansea match is live on Sky Sports Red Button tonight.
It’s also live on Swans TV in UK for a £10 payment, as well as worldwide for subscribers (7:15 for 7:45 kick off). Alan Curtis is with Mal Pope in the studio and Wyndham Evans with Anthony O’Connell commentating.

Swans line up, four changes:
Freddie Woodman; Connor Roberts, Ben Wilmot, Mike van der Hoorn, Jake Bidwell; Jay Fulton, Matt Grimes (captain); Andre Ayew, Bersant Celina, Kristoffer Peterson; Borja Baston.
Subs: Kristoffer Nordfeldt, Kyle Naughton, Ben Cabango, George Byers, Yan Dhanda, Barrie McKay, Sam Surridge.

Unbelievable, why couldn’t we do that!

Now if only we hadn’t faltered at home in those four matches.

I didn’t go to the match and I didn’t watch it on tv. There seems to be a lot of negative comments on the Swans forums about the way we played. Having watched the extended highlights it looked as if we played well. Wyndham Evans sounded very happy at the end with the performance and the result. I know we were awful last Saturday but a draw at rejuvenated Huddersfield was a good one for me. Let’s see how we do against a slick Fulham side on Friday then.

Jay Fulton believes Swansea City’s resilience on the road could “set things up nicely” for Steve Cooper’s side as they head into December with an unbeaten away record.

The Swans picked up another point on Tuesday night as Fulton’s first-half strike was cancelled out by Karlan Grant.

The stalemate stretches the Swans’ record away from the Liberty to four wins and five draws, with Cooper’s side yet to taste defeat on their travels so far.

They are the only team in the EFL yet to be beaten on away soil, while just Liverpool and Sheffield United the other teams in the top four divisions with an unbeaten away record.

Despite having tasted four defeats in nine games at the Liberty, Fulton feels the Swans’ success outside of SA1 can provide a big boost as the season progresses.

“We’re still unbeaten away from home this season, if we can keep that going for as long as possible then it can only set things up nicely for us.
Away from home, we’ve been very resilient and stayed in games. You only have to look at the games against Leeds and Wigan when we scored late winners to see that.”

Fulton fired the Swans into the lead with a powerful effort in the 18th minute to record his first of the campaign.
Grant’s leveller four minutes before the break prevented the Swans from picking up another away win, but Fulton was pleased with the outcome.

“I think the game was pretty even, to be honest, they probably had a bit more of the ball more than us. After scoring the first goal, we would have hoped to at least get to half-time with a lead. But in the end, getting a point away from home, we’re happy with that.”
