How wrong was I

IF 'square one' is being a Premier League team, I'd happily take that right now.

Ange has been worse than I thought possible and my confidence has taken a knock. I'd rather go back 2 years than 4-5.

I honestly get that view and I’m a foot in that camp too… but my concern is we have well and truly put all our eggs in one basket with the summer transfer window just gone - we won’t invest like that again and have the same pull again for a good few years. I think we’ve done it before SCR hoping we’ll have a great spell in Europe and retain a European spot through our domestic position.

Suddenly, manager gone, players with high value looking poor and both domestic and European success looks miles away.

Dyche I’d like to think keeps us up comfortably but he doesn’t add or even maintain the value of this squad and I think that leaves us in a real mess. We shouldn’t overlook that we all thought we had a Europe challenging team only a few weeks ago. Unless we feel that was ONLY The case because of Nuno, then maybe we need to be more ambitious

The issue with Dyche is you’re back to where you started 2 years ago without even knowing it. Players we had high hopes for would be excluded and this incredibly high value squad we all thought we had would suddenly look average. It might be functional and keep us ticking, but it would be average.

The other issue is the messge it sends to your star players. “Hey lads, we want you to enjoy your football and play a more progressive way” 6 weeks later: “hey lads, let’s actually go back to non possession football but this time with even less flair and ambition than Nuno, your favourite manager we sacked”.

You can forget about Anderson, Murillo, MGW wanting to stay beyond this season because they’d sense we’ve lost our way strategically.

EM really has cocked this one up. I’m torn on who you appoint, because on the one hand I’d feel confident we’d recover with Dyche, but I’d fear we’ve gone back to square 1. If we appoint somebody more ambitious, I’d feel like we might maintain our trajectory in the long term if he’s successful… but there’s no guarantee they’d come in and immediately steer us to safety
Some if not all of those names mentioned are probably gone at the end of the season regardless.
There is no way Anderson on his current trajectory is at Forest next season, even if we won the league. Same with MGW.

You make good points.

Long term, I'm not sure who we go for. I'd be very content with Silva, I personally like Dyche, but those two aside I don't know who's even a possibility for us, let alone who's the 'right person' to take us forward and have us challenging for Europe (which looks like the only way we're going to get European football next season)

Me neither, crap isn’t it. Silva for me but if it’s not him, no idea

Glasner, Iraolo, Silva - two of them are absolute non-starters imo. Silva though, I can see being tempted provided his relationship with EM was decent at Oly.

At Fulham, he's a bit of a steady reliable manager, not setting the world alight or pulling up any trees. He's not getting himself on the radar of top clubs or really turning many heads. Whilst Forest are arguably a sideways move, we're a noisy club that gets media attention and gets noticed. We could well be his best bet of raising his own profile and getting onto the radar of bigger clubs.

The guys a moron….13 goals in 6 games and he still wants to play like he does without addressing the defence, which we know can be solid.

And he will get financial support in the market

The fact that Fulham had only 5 clean sheets in the league last season is a trifle worrying should Silva ever become our manager especially given our own current defensive woes.

Can't explain why but I'm not convinced on Silva, mind you I'm probably a better option that Ange so it's all relative.

Klopp has been out of work for a while now..
I’m wouldn’t be either, I think his record at Everton and Hull? was it weren’t great?
Can’t really remember.
However he would have to be better than Ange surely?
Moot point because I really can’t see him coming.
Surely if he was he would be here already rather than Ange.

I feel the same.

Done well at Fulham but not elsewhere. Feels like it clicks ok at Fulham but maybe not something he can replicate anywhere else?

Hit a plateau with Fulham. Partly that is revenue and signings. Their first season back in the PL was very good, but they haven't really improved from that.

Same could also be said about Nuno with us. Ange doesnt look likely to work, and owing the mistake now is what I feel we should do.

Silva is a return to steady management, a structure and a plan, and a bridge between Ange and Nuno. If not Silva, I have no clue what we could do, without it being more of a risk than Ange even?

Every Manager approached and/or interested will have his agent be in touch with the agents of Nuno and Cooper, if not Cooper and Nuno themselves, to sound out what it's like working for EM at Forest.

They will also do their own do diligence about how it is to work with Edu.

Up the Reds!

ONe of them was against Nottingham Forest, at a game I was at, with the goal scored right in front of me.
