As a scientist that accepts evolution, and find religion incompatible with science - I obviously want to see more people coming to the conclusion that science makes the world go round, not religion. i.e. people come to their own conclusions that there is no need to believe in a God. There are obviously other more subjective reasons such as the influence religion has over ones actions to want people to not believe in a God.
But I think the usual suspects on here that argue over everything (myself included) perhaps share this common ground.
However it appears that we all want to go about it a different way. The lecture I have posted form the British Humanist society not only sums up why science is key, but what I view as the correct way to turn people onto Science, rejecting belief in God in the process.
We cannot ban or demonise religion. We can point out what is wrong with it and it's shortcomings, but even the staunchest of believers will not take the point.
It is the conclusion of the lecture that I agree with and think is how we do this.
The two ways to stop giving people a reason for believing in God are:
1. Free Universal Health Care
2. Address inequality (wealth, gender etc etc)
Do these two things and people will have the security blanket necessary to cast away a need for a Godly protector.
I hope you enjoy the video!
